Carolina Brit
I have two Bachmann ICI Salt Works 7 plank wood-sided wagons. Would these have typically carried salt from the salt works or coal into the works? If salt, was it loaded in bags or loose into these wagons? craigwelsh
I'd think its coal, especially if it has an end door. Sand was normally a 5 plank and i'd expect salt to be the same.
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted June 17, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 17, 2011 This link shows bagged salt being transferred from open wagons to a horse-van. The wagons would presumably have been sheeted to protect the load in transit.

I'm thinking that maybe 5 plank wagons carried bags of salt out and 7 plank wagons carried coal in? Thanks for the reply.
