Heathfield branch developments

Sad to see the station site progress to being less recognisable but I suppose any development on 'brownfield' land is better than expanding the town into the countryside.

I stayed in Moretonhampstead for a few days last week, and when driving past the site of the old station noticed some changes. Thompsons the haulage firm have relinquished much of the site.

Although we did not walk along the Wray Valley on this visit I did take some photos. After our visit to the Haytor Granite Tramway I walked from the hotel down to the station and took a few photos.

The housing development is advertised as Hingston View.

Now that various buildings have been demolished and lorries moved it was possible to get a shot of the loco shed from this side, I had previously photographed it from the Wray Valley Trail which passes on the far side of the site.

Some with long memories might say that Devon Council does an ability to influence, but it's often a negative influence.

e.g.

1) building the West Devon District Council offices in Tavistock slap-bang on the old Southern track (east of the viaduct), therefore seriously blocking any possibility of reinstating the line from Tavistock to Okehampton

2) granting planning permission for c.750 new houses but then deciding that a restored branch line from Bere Alston to Tavistock wasn't viable, therefore guaranteeing even more road traffic on the A386 into Plymouth.
