Michael Shillabeer
Hello I joined RMWeb to enter the 2011 Challenge and found this corner of the board. I'm building a RepRap with the aim of printing buildings. My progress can be seen on Flickr I haven't worked on it for a while because I was building an entry for the N Gauge Society Annual Model Making Competition last month. Now moving house and building a 2011 diorama so RepRap still on hold. RepRap produces considerably cruder prints, which is why I'm aiming to print buildings initially. backofanenvelope
Welcome Michael to this corner of RMweb, and looks like you have an interesting project going on there, and would be interested to see quality of the finished parts from the RepRap Tom
scanman
Hi Mike - First I'd echo 'backofanenevelope's welcome & comment. Looking at your Flkr page, I take it that the white units are those it can 'self-replicate'? If so, the finish appears a little coarse - mind you it might represent 'courses' in buildings! From other posts in this group it appears that may be a function of nozzle diameter - what's the size on this model? Secondly, I take it all the 'metal bits' came with the kit. If so, does the maker specify sizes etc - and probably more to the point - suppliers? Very interesting tho' Regs Ian
Michael Shillabeer
Hello Thanks for the welcome! Yes, the white parts are self-replicated. I'm not building from a kit but am sourcing all the components as I need them. I'm following instructions stored on the RepRap website My build is documented on the RepRap Forum which includes links to suppliers. I don't have a nozzle yet. I looked at buying a lathe so I could make my own, so nozzle diameter would only be limited by the size of drill I could find. I plan to experiment with printing individual bricks and even try a square nozzle! Best regards Michael
Pugsley
so nozzle diameter would only be limited by the size of drill I could find. Really? So, theoretically, a 0.1mm nozzle should be possible?
Michael Shillabeer
Really? So, theoretically, a 0.1mm nozzle should be possible? Yes in theory. I don't know enough yet to determine if the stepper motor that feeds the plastic through the nozzle would be strong enough. If not, there are bigger stepper motors out there. Pugsley
Interesting. That would certainly open up new possibilities if it were possible.
scanman
Mike - Thanks for the answers above - I'll be watching with interest (particularly the bricks!) Regs Ian
