Hi, finally come over from the old RMweb forum on which I was building a layout called Newport.

"Hi all just thought i'd start a thread with progress of my new layout based in Newport, South Wales in the 90's. I Will be opperating Railfreight Sector traffic mainly Steel, Coal and Petroleum and also Rfd Speedlink. The layout will consist of a 6 road, 12ft marshelling yard based on Tidal or ADJ, with adjoining small Powell Duffyn wagon repair facility for local steel wagons, Small stable/fuelling piont, Steel works and branch line to docks. Will be looking to run class 37,56 & 60's on coal trains to and from the Vallies and Power stations, 37 & 60's on the Petroleum trains and 37,60 & 56's on the steel trafic. Will also have Tinsley Rfd 37 & 47's on the speedlink service with visiting FP 37's bringing depot fuel. There will be a fiddle yard at both ends with the one being at the end of the docks branch which will able me to run a large varity of tracfic through the layout to the unseen docks"

I have now decided to base the layout not just around the Newport area but Newport/Cardiff dock areas with ideas and inspiration from Cardiff Tidal sidings and also ADJ and East Usk yards.

Progress still quiet slow due to time and costs.

Hope you enjoy.

The RES coaches in the far siding are going to represent the heavily weatherd ones stored at Cardiff Tidal sidings. None of the stock or locomotives have been weathered yet, will wait until the layout is complete and detailed.

Thanks to Grimley (Your HAA's inspire me), Anthony, Archonix & Ian. Glad you like the ballasting, I was'nt sure ! Its just a Woodland Scinics medium buff ballast then spayed with sleeper grime. Still some work on the track in the yard to do yet, I want the far sidings to look not used on a regular basis so will be painting the rails with Humrol rust. Also need to add a few more lighting towers and yard items etc. I have spent yesterday growing Static grass, Im really pleased with the results, really is much better than the picture shows.

Dont use the ??129 Noch static do dar thingy, sprinkle then blow up a baloon, rub on your chest then drift it over the grass and hey presto it all stands up....!

The low relif building in the background are far from complete, sort of moved onto the grassing sorry. Still need to weather them and add more detail such as graffiti and piping.

The wagon workshop opperated by Powell Duffryn is still under contsruction, lots of little bits on the go, just need to complete before starting the next.

Ian its end to end, starting at a fiddle yard, passing a small fuel/stableing point then round into the marshelling yard, through the yard along a branch using a Canton 09 to the dock and hidden fiddle yard, off the docks branch is two sidings to a steel loading warehouse.

Thanks for the interest all.

Leon

.

That's what my father used to do back in the 70s making models for Cardiff City Council (eg the infamous 'Hook Road' project.

.

BTW I'm told that Lord & Butler in Cardiff rent out a 'do dar thingy' for ??15 per week.

Thanks Brian, I work next to Lord & Butler in Chicos, maybe I can rent out my balloon to them ?

 That Balloon idea is worth its weight in Static Grass Applicators! I wouldn't be surprised if Noch took a contract out on you - if the balloon thing takes off!

Brilliant.

Nice open spaces on your layout. Don't fill it up too much.

cheers

Raphael
