Oxford diecast... whats next?

Hi all, does anyone know whats in the pipeline for more'N' vehicles..? we have- buses a few cars loads of morris minors scamell, taxis, prefects, snipe, cresta, horsebox ,caravan, jag and fire engine...if ive missed any let me know what favorites would anyone else like them to produce?

Dad was speaking to Oxford yesterday and has updated the Oxford part of his website http://www.transmac.net/index.html click onto Cars button then Oxford. He was impressed by some of the pre-production models.

I have just came off J.Ayrey website after looking under Oxfordiecast 00 range, they have listed some new vehicles both trucks,vans and cars.

Here a quick list of some interesting items.

Yes, some excellent releases there- they're well out of period for any layout needs I'm likely to have, but the 'wedge' Princess and Triumph 2.5 are very welcome, we had a Princess when I was a kid

On the subject of "wish lists" I would like to see a Ford Granada mark2, and a Rover SD1 produced in OO scale.

BTW, I ran an F reg Cavalier mark 2 hatchback in 1997 - there's another option for the model companies to produce.

While we're on the subject of wishes, how about a Mark 2 Cortina 4-door? Every diecast and kit of Mark 2's in all scales have been 2-door while the 4-door was much more common in real life. .

Good point Bernard. Most of the models I've seen aren't quite right. I've got one that is exactly right but that's in twelve inches to the foot scale!

I still haven't painted my rebuild - I was going to use the paint from a spray tin of Ford Lagoon (lightish blue) but sadly it had expired into a rusty mush since I lasy used it (1987?). I kept the painted lid as a colour reference. I'll have to see what other contemporary Ford colours I've got/fancy using.

I''m going to wait until I see them on their main webpage before I run around the room praising the god of diecast but I'm looking forwards to some of these wee beasties. There seemed to an emphasis on 1/76 cars and 1/72 planes but little in the way of new N gauge (couldn't find any) and 1:43.

 

If that list is true! Then the Marina, Regal and Viva are excellent for us BR Blue modellers. The transit beavertail looks to be a good choice as well.

Some interesting choices there, and covering a nice range of periods- as you say the HB Viva (Oxford covering another part of our family motoring history!), Marina and Reliant are all good choices for the BR Blue era, the VW T25 is a nice follow-on from their existing Bay Window, and likely to be popular for the 80's modeller, and that Transit beavertail sounds very useful- wonder which Mark of Transit they're doing?

 

The Atlantic is an interesting 50's release, although hardly an everyday sight (according to Wikipedia, less than 8000 A90 Atlantics sold, with about 50% going for export), http://farm5.staticf...66e01a009_z.jpg

The Austin Tilly sounds like a logical addition to the military stuff they've started to do, with last year's AEC Matadors etc. Did Tillys get sold on any great numbers for civilian use after military service?

Yes they were and very popular as a straightforward light economical vehicle, think main problem not many survived rough treatment in the war.

Yes they were and very popular as a straightforward light economical vehicle, think main problem not many survived rough treatment in the war.

Quite a few did survive, several were still in use in Malta in the late 70's. The ones based on the Hillman Minx do not seem to have lasted so well. Many were to be seen in the 50's with 'estate car' bodies replacing the tilt.

In 1:76 scale - the Bedford OWB in 3 different liveries. [Thursday 2nd Feb entry]

 

In 1:148 (British N) the Burlingham Sunsaloon (3 liveries) and Plaxton Elite (2 liveries) [Wednesday 1st Feb entry]

Note: despite comment on another group this is the 2009 onwards Plaxton 'Elite', not the early 1970s body style of the same name!

 

Have to say that the window pillars (often a poor aspect of ODC castings) look finer than other recent models - the windscreens in particular of the OWB and Burlingham looking much closer to flush than others while the Elite clearly employs a very different production method, necessary for the large bonded glass panoramic windows and 'barrel' windscreen.

 

Paint finish of these samples is a bit rough around the edges and I would hope will be tided up before release...

When dad got the list of these (he sells them) I think that he decided to have one of each MkVI Bentley and I might get 2 of the Ivo's one to keep as it is and the other to repaint just like my car. Dad's thinking of repainting one like his MkVI.

 

Some time ago I was talking to Oxford about some possible vehicles and one that I mentioned was the MkVI so perhaps if you suggest a few of the 1980's cars that are not done as models (or others) then they may appear in the future.

The N Gauge model of the new Plaxton Elite is due any day. Samples have been delivered to Plaxton and have met with universal approval. The model is a superb rendition of the prototype in every way, a great achievement for a vehicle with such a complex combination of curves.

The N Gauge model of the new Plaxton Elite is due any day. Samples have been delivered to Plaxton and have met with universal approval. The model is a superb rendition of the prototype in every way, a great achievement for a vehicle with such a complex combination of curves.

My 'fleet' arrived from Oxford Die-Cast this morning, one sandwiched here between a couple of Bandai die-casts:

I have a relivery in mind for one, but I do hope these sell well so Oxford see a demand for perhaps scaling down some of the modern 1/76 vehicles in their range B)
