If you want American vehicles suitable for 00 scale Tomica produced several American cars from the 70's era using a scale of 1/77. Best one was the Chevrolet pick-up that was good enough to be used straight from the box.

Thanks Phil but my layout is early 60s.

I have just discovered - a month late! - that Model Collector magazine has put a large number of photos of Oxford Diecast's models displayed at the recent London and Nuremberg Toy Fairs on their Facebook page. There are 39 photos altogether, and they include the first photos of a decorated sample of the Ford WOT1 Crash Tender. The link to the photos is here - with many thanks to Diecast Collector for sharing them.

Thanks, saves me the cutting and pasting job!

I think the 76th Austin Maxi and Duple Commander are the highlights for me, hopefully the latter will include provision for the earlier style of grille rather than the Ogle Design style in the CADs so it can be done as a Midland Red LC7.

You have to say that Oxford are clearly still investing and innovating which is great.

I’d agree, will look forward to both of these.

The choice of Commander II continues with Oxford’s tradition of choosing the quirky or least popular variants. Commanders were built in fewer numbers than the much more common Viceroy or Bella Vega. The MkII Commander was less numerous than the MkIV, and the later grille style, only being in production for less than a year, made sure it was the least numerous of all. As it’s a Southdown, I’m assuming it’s a36’ version, in which case of the big fleets, I can only think of them being in Southdown, Samuelsons and Oxford colours which must limit the commercial scope of them.

Hopefully the lower dash will be a separate casting as the rest of the body remains similar with the Mk1. Midland Red had 100 Commander 1 bodies on Leopards as their LC7 class which lasted into National days, in fact they were a regular on our school bus for some years. I hope they can make the Mk1 out of the same casting at some point as a Midland Red coach!

That was exactly my thought too, as the Little Bus Company did with their kit, which allowed for Southdown and Midland Red variants to be built from the same kit.. Having said that, I am interested mainly in the Southdown version anyway!

Great selection of releases but I must admit I thought it’s an ‘interesting’ choice for the British Gas van to be in the newer dark blue flame livery on the older Mk3 Transit instead of going for the classic white & blue stripe ‘Gas’ livery which will hold more nostalgia and be more use to modellers, then save the newer dark blue flame livery for a facelift ‘smiley-face’ Transit (if one appears) at a later date!

Cheers,

James (who’s still holding out dearly for a Ford Focus announcement one day!)

Not much in N gauge again. Modern models get a Disco and there’s a Bristol MW Royal Blue Coach.....I think these lasted into National Express white...hint hint.

The OO commander coach version is an odd choice but it will add another vehicle to my Southdown fleet.

I’m still holding out for an HC Viva.....British Racing Green, black vinyl roof for the same reason.

How about a British Army Bedford RL 4 ton lorry ???

Sure to be popular with a time span from the mid 50s to the 80s !

An army one tonner of the same era would also be good in N gauge.  Doesn't really matter whether it's an Austin, a Morris or a Humber, though I do have a soft spot for the Humber.

I also still hanker after N gauge mobile cranes of the same era.

Oxford just sent me an email with their 2nd 2018 release. It has a different set of models than listed here. I'm a little confused.

Anyhow ...

The new tooling Burrell showman's traction engine caught my eye.

Some good news there, with rather interesting releases on their way.

Wonder if anyone will ever produce a Thundersley Invacar? They were very common in the 1970s, it was the Motability scheme that finished them off. As I understand it, they were provided to disabled people but remained the property of the government, and when Motability was introduced they were nearly all requisitioned and then sent to landfill. Thus, very few survive.

I got my Shermans a few months back.  Very good tanks from Oxford if you are looking to add something to our warwells.  I've added some ink wash and weathering pastels which mute the newness nicely.  Still need some more work, but they make a good war weary tank that's either been shipped back or getting ready to be transported to head back out...

Some of the dates quoted are a bit off, for example the oxford mk5 transit (should be mk7) was a facelifted version of the 2000 mk6, introduced in 2006 and the mk3 wasn't around in 1980 but introduced around 1986.

Link to post

That could be more a matter of definition, after all the Transit* has only had four bodyshell generations, though the first one is normally split into 'Mk.1' and 'Mk.2' because of the significantly altered front for the new engines. Each of those has a facelift version so could arguably count as Mks.1 to 4 or all be lumped in as Mk.1. The next 'fastfront' Transit had two facelifts (so three generations of styling) and various technical revisions over the years and the 2001 model had one obvious facelift during its run. So far only one version of the current body. It's easier to refer to them by their dates rather than unoffical 'Mk.'

* excluding recent 'Custom' & 'Connect' families of models

They were replaced by converted standard cars because they had a pretty appalling safety record, being unstable on corners, and very lightly-built; the Sunday Times ran a campaign to replace them in the early 1970s. Their one redeeming feature was they were small enough to be taken to pitchside in football and rugby grounds.

Nice range to come from Oxford, especially the Land Rovers.

On the buses side of things though. I wouldn't mind a Leyland Atlantean East Lancs variant like this one shown here.

I personally would love to see more double deck buses in OO/1:76 scale from Oxford and I think this one could be a good choice for a new model bus.

It would be good to see Oxford do more 'deckers, the rear engine models would be particularly welcome but I'm not sure about the East Lancs ones, they always looked pretty bland to me. Very few made it into NBC fleets which restricts them largely to those municipals with loyalty to Blackburn. Personally, an Alexander, Roe or MCW would be more welcome but a Tate of the art VRT would be top of the list.
