Realtrack Models looking for suggestions!

Charlie, personally I think you have opened a tin of worms by asking for suggestions from steam to current prototype.

Everyone will have their own personal favourite with little regard for commercial considerations.

So now let me add my two cents worth.

I would like to see a ‘Diesel Brake Tender’ produced.

We have thought of this one, but its on the back burner as I speak

A working Wickham trolley would be a real eyecatcher

I have my kits ones here in RTR an £60.00

Just been looking thru some of my old trainspotting notes and I really could do with an ex GWR railcar unit [35-36 or 33-38] to go either side of a green Hawksworth coach or maybe even a Park Royal bodied railcar [ 1 - 4] ...... Ah well I can always dream!

Looking at the quality of the class 144 samples I guess that anything new to the same standard will be very welcome to many people.

You know it makes sense Charlie. I am sure you must have thought about 140/141/ LEV1/2/3 when you were doing the 143/4 anyway....

We are trying to get a new reputation! Classes 140-141-142-143-144. 'Built like battle ships!!!!!!!!!!! '

I'd give first generation DMUs a wide berth. There are already several models on the market, and again the typical modeller isn't likely to buy something that's similar to a model he's already got.

Hmmm! Problem is that we WR modellers aint ever had a decent RTR one! Hence 120 could be a winner

Kind regards

Phil

I like 120s but sadly that's Bachmann's territory, so Heljan beware!!!

One of the trailer cars that came with the introduction of Class 121/122 bubble cars. Not sure if they had a class number but were 56280-56299 and didn't have a guard's compartment.

Whilst on the subject of bubble cars, a 122 or conversion parts for the Hornby/Lima model cabs. I think Chris Leigh used to do something but out of production now?

You can buy my DC Kit's 108 cabs fof the 122!

J69 could be an interesting one.

You could also consider a Neilson 0-4-0st which has CR, NBR and numerous industrial permutations. I think one or two English pre-group companies used variations too.

An early postwar era PW crane.

Ex-Air ministry type 14 ton tank - extremely common in the pre monobloc era.

Conflat/Timber P.

Original build Freightliner flat.

Hi Charlie

I accept you are not going to do them but if the big manufacturers take note - Mk2 air cons are mentioned in 20% of the posts in this thread. (not including this one!)

Cheers

Jim

It would be good to see a Tamper that is to a 00 scale. There are many different liveies that can be done too, and a tamper is fitting for most/all layouts. A 323 would be nice, if not a good touch with a nieche market such as the 143/144. I've asked for a 333 before but I know that's not going to happen - So I ask, what about the 319/320-322 family that's still skirting the network today? Pleanty of livery oppertunities and area scope there. I also echo the comments for the Electrostar family. A very big like of mine would be a 185, but again, I've resigned myself to thinking it's simply not going to happen.

Loco front I don't think there's many that the big manufacturers haven't already released.

Wagons, sidetipper ballasters that Network Rail have would be good, compliment what's already out there that's NR branded.

Perhaps one of the early Matisa tampers would be a good choice. Used from the late 1950s at least until 1980 as I understand.

You mean the ones Dapol are already doing?

No!

A later Matisa machine like the ones I used to play with :)

Listed under wagons though? I am completely confused Bouncy Bouncy, are you suggesting realtrack do an identical wagon to Dapol just in a differnt colour?

Cheers

From a Hobby'ists point of view how long have I been waiting for Bachmanns MPV to hit the shelves. It's very easy to feel that the big boys are taking the point of view that if we want it bad enough then we will wait.

That's an odd perspective. What commercial reason would a manufacturer have to deliberately slow down development of a model?

Charlie, Arran

As has been said this is a real open door to all sorts. Not that getting as much info as possible is a bad thing.

From some of your answers to suggestions you hint at what products you have already ruled out as they are already within the reach of the Major Manufacturers.

To narrow it down, do you already have some sort of plan that this would confirm? (pick list) or is this the start of it? I'm sure I saw somewhere recently a whats avail/whats missing list.

As I said in the wagon thread I would like to see some of the missing Speedlink Era two axle wagons. PRA, FPA (both types of coal containers), MOD PFA, IVA (single or twin)

To that you can add the FFA and almost any variation of TTA/V to give some variety over the small range already there

DMU of Preference 117

EMU " " " " " 314

or push the boat out and do an APT

These - They come in Railtrack and NR yellow. I have the Dapol wagons, which we have actually used for Spoil, not ballast!

(I do p-way, hence the lineside pic!)

As Jim mentions:

The first test mouldings were at the DEMU showcase in June.

I would have thought if you are even thinking about first-gen DMUs, the rarer, smaller classes such as the Wickhams, Class 103 Park Royals, or Class 100 Gloucester units would be reasonably safe as I can't see Bachmann doing them even with their 57ft DMU underframe, I suspect they will probably do a 104 next (good range of variations and operating areas) and despite their assertions that they won't upscale the new Grafar 101, we've heard their "we'll never do it" claims before and that must be a cert for a new model. However, as the Glosters and Wickhams had a different underframe style (semi integral) and the Park Royals only numbered about 25, the low odds on these being made might be worth a risk if you believe Heljan will milk their new 64ft DMU underframe for a Cross Country or Suburban unit (which I doubt) and Bachmann will polish off the remaining big class 57ft dmus.

I personally would still love to see a decent original five car Freightliner rake with contemporary 1960s and 1970s containers, and I suspect that Hornby won't do one, neither will Bachmann. Have you thought about the Cartics as well? The venerable Triang model is of it's age and whilst modern car carriers have a range of RTR models anyone wanting to haul newly built Hillman Imps or Ford Escorts has to be very good with a soldering iron or spend a fortune on fiddly detailing kits.

I won't go over the overhead EMU route again except to say I think it'll be an ice-age in hell before we get a Bachy 323, and positively deep-space absolute zero in Hades before we get a 304/5/8 from them. No third rail shoes for one thing.

Contemporary dmu classes might also offer opportunities - I doubt any of the major companies are thinking about the 175 or 180, yet they now have a range of livery options, and with only the nose cone changing it could be that they could both get modelled with a limited range of body mouldings. I suspect Bachmann might have the 185 covered as a derivative of their Dessie unit, sharing some componentry as they do, but I suspect the 175 and 180 are probably unlikely to emerge anytime soon.

Didn't know Dapol were doing any, I took your post to mean the JNA's they released last year.

Another vote for the Gloucester 100.

Unique, interesting and has been suggested earlier, sufficiently different from the other types produced to be off the radar of the big boys.

Russells FPA and Cawoods / BFL / MOD PFA & containers - run in speedlink or full rakes, several liveries, decent life span.

304 / 305 / 308 a personal fave from Mcr - Crewe trips as a kid and went to school in Bury so 504s were seen daily too but probably too narrow for RTR and I do have the DC Kit to build when I retire (in 30 years time).

Sentinel / Thos Steel type D-H shunter perhaps for those of us that cannot do Judith Edge Brass?

Electrostars maybe though Bodgemann may corner the modern unit corner with their desiro?
