Halfords have a 4 for the price of 3 in their body repair section.

That includes the popular spray primer...... I needed two cans of white and one of grey, so it was rude not to take advantage.

Cheers,

Mick

Go on, tell us. What was the fourth? :jester:

For those who have already looked at their BRM for this month and followed up on our website the Strathwood Spring Sale has started on selected items, aside from a number of titles now down to half price, among the special offers are a large number of our normally £19.95 titles available for deals.

Two for £30, three for £35 and five for £50 so go ahead and fill your boots whilst you can.

I could hazard a guess!

Mike.

And you'd be wrong :onthequiet:  - their yellow primer is a combined primer/filler - too thick for models. (But still on the 4 for 3 and actually very useful for getting a very good finish on wood)

Cheers,

Mick

Just had an email from Bure Valley Models with some new bargains for April

http://www.burevalleymodels.com/c/5/Bargains

Edit

Just noticed not all that was on my email is in the bargain section but is in the normal categories too.

Worth a look there too while the bargain section updates, maybe i was a bit quick :-)

Hornby sale at wonderland models https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/sale/Hornby/

Not sure how much of a bargain some of these items are but might be something for someone there :-)

I tried to order whilst in the Norfolk Broads using a 4G connection on the move and the payment bit failed several times, probably due to intermitten connection and security issues. Shortly after I got an email from Wonderland giving me a time limited 5% off code. Sweet :)

Ian Allan in Birmingham are selling some books off

There has been quite a pile of bargain books there for some weeks now.

Well worth a visit if you are in Brum

Don't forget also that they are also competitive for Bachmann stuff

I got the LMS Stanier Mogul for £135 (Hattons =  £135.96) and if you have an IA loyalty card is equivalent to another 5% off.

Very much more expensive.

Consider a train of maybe 100 40ft containers (perhaps optimistic) that requires two changes of bogies on route with a ship that is much slower, but will carry up to 10,000 40ft containers (20k TUE).

The train is for high margin and time sensitive cargoes*.  I doubt that our models would be time sensitive unless two manufacturers with the same prototype were bringing their models to market atthe same time.

* and you can be certain that DB are aware of that and charge the suitable premium for carriage by rail.

When it's put that way, it sounds like air freight will see this one off.

If it's urgent.. air, if it's not.. sea.

Is there really an 'urgent but not that urgent' market ?

Similarly the train has to go, full or not, flights can be adjusted, up or down gauged, cancelled or diverted with ease... which means rail costs have to absorb the variances in demand.

There is a balance between urgency and weight.  Airlines charge (handsomely) per Kilogramme.  If you had an urgent delivery of say 200.000 new but not light electronic gizmos, airfreight might be just too expensive.  You might well airfreight a carton or two for an exhibition or a show, but not 20.000 or 200.000 items.

I think there is a place for the train, but its place is limited - as indeed is airfreight.  I suspect the train is likely to filter more potential business from the airlines than from sea.

Think of the China - UK train as being the equivalent of the Aberdeen - Penzance Cross Country service. Very few people will actually travel the full distance, from Aberdeen all the way to Penzance.

This inter-continental service is the same, allowing traffic to travel on a through service with several loading/unloading points en-route. This gives it a superb advantage compared to Air and Sea which are generally either point to point or at best, have one calling point en-route. Most China shipping services go to Hamburg (some to Rotterdam) and then smaller feeder ships bring the final containers over to the UK. The new Liverpool2 deep port will go some way to encouraging direct routing.

The train offers other options that Air & Sea don't. Crew wise it will be cheaper as each leg of the journey will be undertaken by the relevant country train operator, using existing train crew, thereby avoiding the need for a dedicated crew which is required for sea journeys.
