The statistics tell it all - a thread that has been running rather less than 18 months with 453 contributions and a whopping 27k hits. Clearly you're doing something that others adore. Really sorry to hear that sir I'm also saddened to hear that you have had to part with much of your stock Something I'm sure many of us would dread I'm pleased to hear you are "back on the horse" and even more pleased to see your recent superb postings Maybe we all need time "off the horse", to realise how much we enjoy being back on it? After all that OT I'm far to tired to do any modelling on the shed interior tonight but I do have the energy to flake out on the sofa and browse the net for some inspiration ! Low and behold, after several hundred image searches on Flickr I think I just found the perfect pairing to work on next - Hattons here we come ! Alex - 2 locos and a 1'x1' board is hardly going to match up to your masterpiece in the making. Lets see how accurate a reproduction I can get in model form of the photo and if its any cop you can let me loose on Boxenby with the camera when it's finished ! Sandhills Posted October 29, 2012 Author Share Posted October 29, 2012 A little bit of modelling over the weekend which was followed up by some photography this morning has resulted in a little bit of rolling stock arriving on the depot for an overhaul. A second hand Bachmann Mk 2 rescued from the bargain basket at the model shop went under the knife and I opened up the guards door and repositioned it in a open position. Its had a weather to a shabby state and hopefully once a set of Bachmann Lifting Jacks arrive later this week i'll be able to picture it with the bogies rolled out and the body suspended up in the air. The well worn coach was stabled in the storage sidings for sometime before being considered for overhaul - The C&W shop floor is now fully stocked with chemicals, brake blocks and batteries - The coach after it was positioned in the shed by the 'plants' smokey 08 - I was pleased with the way the weathering turned out at the base of the carriage doors - Once the jacks arrive the body can be lifted and the bogies removed. I'll photograph this process when it happens - My woodworking friend is preparing a new baseboard for the 44/56 diorama this week and 2 more shifts at the pub should see the loco fund reach enough for the 44 to be purchased next weekend. You really have to blink a couple of times to realize that it is just a model and not the real thing. You certainly know how to use a camera and light together. More please! Sandhills Posted October 30, 2012 Author Share Posted October 30, 2012 Another good day with excellent weather conditions and an early morning delivery from Antics but boy, do I wish I had a loco to picture rather than a coach ! The Bachmann lifting jacks arrived this morning and without delay the bogies on the mark 2 were detached and up she went ! Im reluctant to glue the jacks down as id like the freedom to move them around the shop floor however getting a coach to balance on an un-even floor and getting everything to look straight and rigid was a tricky job. I lost count of the number of times the camera lens just nudged the edge of the board and sent everything tumbling like a game of Ker-Plunk ! Small blobs of Blu-Tac came to the rescue and once everything was positioned and the camera set on the remote I was able to nip round the back of the building for a crafty fag, the smoke being blown through the windows as the camera clicked away !! With a low sun and the board set up in an elevated position in the garden I couldnt really go wrong with shadows and sunlight effects, this shot being my favourite despite its lack of content or light - The roof height in relation to the jacked up body height of the coach looks about right but its a complete fluke ! You certainly couldnt use these 2 Bachmann products together unless you altered the height of the shed base, as I unwittingly did ! Another mark 2 awaits on the workbench so i'll photograph the weathering process and hopefully recreate the step weathering for reference. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

vac_basher Posted November 1, 2012 Share Posted November 1, 2012 Wow Jon! Beautiful snaps!! I say, the light shining through the windows into the smoke/atmospheric-dust is amazing! Opening the gaurds door is a nice touch too. I am quite amused that we're working on similar kinds of projects. Our smoke techniques in the past, now the interior workshops, and believe it or not just today I recieved a package from the USA with pallets, oxygen tanks, tools, etc for the inside of my Bath Road, and then totally by chance I come on here and see you've added much the same stuff to your diorama! The casual observer may think we're copying each other! Very funny indead! I just wish my photos would turn out as good as yours though!! Keep them coming!! I'm sure you already know this but for your smokey shots, you want to use as less light as possible so that if you're manually setting your camera you can use the lowest ISO and a long expposure (tripod is a must for this). Sandhills Posted November 1, 2012 Author Share Posted November 1, 2012 It's funny you should say that vac_basher, it was your picture of the 47 in the shed that spurred me on and inspired me to get back on with the modelling and RMweb ! I had my own little play around with this shot and kept it on my phone for a few days after you had posted it. After constantly looking at it the draw to do some modelling became too strong and a week or so later the Bachmann Depot mini project was born as a stop gap until I could afford to start on the loco collection again. Loved this when I saw it and I thought the loco had a real sense of presence in the depot and the angle you had taken the shot at was spot on.
