an airplane rudder pretending to be a shark's fin, what is it? It's a jokey reference to another movie but that isn't important right now.

(Actually Barry Ten had the best joke!)

Hi Northmoor

The exhausts are routed as they are so that the expansion chambers may be of equal volume and still allow ground clearance. The right hand cylinder is routed under the centre line, two centre cylinders go each side under the frame rails and the left hand one that arches around the clutch cover and turns 90* across the rear of the engine and 90* again to the underside of the seat. You may note that there is an oval hole in the fairing for the right hand cylinder's pipe shewing how tightly packed it all is.

Gibbo.

Thanks Gibbo, I'd forgotten the two-stroke requirement for matched expansion chambers.  I suppose a toasty inside leg was a minor concern compared with breaking your collar bone or worse when it high-sided you off, which the two strokes had a habit of doing (probably at their worst at the end of the 80s).

Some of the ship kits rescued from Boot sales and charity shops as part started failures....first pic is a Revell Hood that was a disaster! How can you glue the main deck INSIDE the hull upside down! Plus, it's the first ever model i have used acrylics on!

One 'Non Railway Modelling' comment that I might make is that there seems to be quite a lot of rather nice 'ready to fly' RC planes on the market, eg

https://www.elitemodelsonline.co.uk/Aircraft/By-Manufacturers/Dynam/111305-/Spitfire-MKIX-With-Retracts-1200MM-Ready-To-Fly

but very little by the way of 'Ready to sail' RC boats, at 'popular' prices apart from the Hobby Engine Southampton Tug (Rather nice it is too, middle son has one)

My suggestion might be for a few more 'Ready to sail' RC boats, stand off scale, three possible prototypes, the Somerset & Dorsets SS Radstock

The Southern Railway trio of  Brading/Southsea/Shanklin or Balmoral

That's a fantastic model !..

I've still got an (unbuilt as yet ) Airfix version from the 60s or whenever, the detail on your one is obviously way superior to the olde 1/32 Airfix job.

Apparently my Gran's sister was a conductress on one of these ( in 1-1 scale! ) back in the day..

It is by far the most challenging kit I have ever built. The fit of the parts is superb but many are very delicate. the hand rails would snap as I tried to remove the little nub where it is removed from the sprue and on a couple of parts I replaced the thin plastic with 0.5mm diameter brass rod. They give instructions on how to make spark plug leads but dont supply the material for them. This is just 0.3mm wire but needs a 0.35mm hole drilled in a terminal that is only 0.5mm in diameter itself. Possible but tricky.

The end result is very impressive and looks good no matter how closely you look. It would benefit from light weathering but I didnt want to risk doing it too heavily and spoiling it so I have just left it clean.

It looks fantastic just as it is !...  they were probably kept pretty clean and tidy in real life anyway, so weathering not much of an issue, (unlike a muddy T34 tank or something !)

You've inspired me to have a bash at the old Airfix bus once I've sorted my current list of railway jobs out !

I also have in the to do list, one of the Airfix "old Bill" incarnations of the bus, the boarded up troop carrying WW1 version.

Is it going to be a replacement bus..........

This was the gateway back into railway modelling as I found it in a cupboard during the first lockdown.

Shouldn't it be exploding, crashed, or on fire? Seem to remember that being the general appearance of Eagles in the show ;)

Lovely job on the model- I've a trio of Airfix Angel jets somewhere I picked up from Pennine Models years ago, must get round to finishing them off at some point...

Why thank you! They normally crashed when flown by Alan Carter, if I recall correctly. There’s some great renders on the Scifi Airshow site along with other vintage space vehicles https://www.scifiairshow.com/

The sci fi airshow is a brilliant concept and they did it very well imho.  Thanks for posting the link.
