Non-railway modelling

Nice job, Les. I was impressed enough with your lovely Parisien bus to acquire the same kit, although I haven't started mine yet.

Not tempted by the Heller 1/8th Traction Avant?

Thanks Barry

The Traction Avant would be nice,  a 1/8th Hachette Routemaster would be even nicer - have to wait for my premium bonds to come up first!

Anyway, in the meantime - go on - open the box....

I have started to add a bit of mud around the chassis of my Pz.Kpfw IV Ausf. F before I refit the wheels and tracks. It is easier to to the basic stuff like this earlier and it gives a more consistent appearance.

Having lots of fun building this.

Progress on the Hawker Hunter, which I'm doing in the 1958 Battle of Britain commemoration scheme. I must admit as a kid I always thought Hawker Hunters were a bit boring compared to Phantoms, Buccaneers etc but I've really fallen in love with the beautiful lines of this jet. It's so well-proportioned, it just looks right.

I have a couple of 1:10 scale radio control 4x4s which like the real thing are a constant work in progress. There are competitions held for them but I prefer to just take them for a casual drive with friends who also build them.

A quickie conversion of the "Airfix Classic" panzer IV to Flakpanzer Mobelwagen . Chassis-kit, everything else-scratch. :D

I've a couple of bits to finish off on these, but this has been a very relaxing way to spend an hour after work in the recent warm weather.

The Scout needs the canopy fixing (after "misting" it to hide the almost bare cockpit), a few decals still to do on the Sea Harrier and the Tempest undercarriage is still to be painted and fixed (and WHERE did those two other prop blades go...?).  Otherwise, done.  They've only taken just short of 40 years to complete!

A couple of recently revisited Matchbox and Revell reissues. Good value considering you get a diorama and maybe 1/2 figures! :D

Those diorama bases are thrown out by many modellers. I have several sections of the 'road' that comes with the German 8 wheel armoured car. trimmed and joined together* and the 'shell hole' filled in they can make a reasonable length of road for the layout. *Alternated with each piece the opposite way to its neighbour.

More Spitfires....photo-reconnaissance this time.

These were lockdown projects, this is a Spitfire PR Mk XI in Danish markings. The Royal Danish Airforce had 3 of them, ex-RAF, received in 1947 and still in use up to June 1955.  Developed from the Mk IX fighter, they had Merlin 70 engines.  This is from an MPM 1:72 kit, airbrushed with Humbrol 230 PR blue, finished with Testors Dulkote.

Spitfire PR XIX in Swedish markings, in use between 1948 and 1955. These had Griffon engines.  (The last RAF ones went on to 1957, one of which was preserved and is still flying). This was an Airfix 1:72 kit, same paint and finish as the PR XI.

So- two PR Spitfires, one with  Merlin, one with Griffon, in post war markings, pretty much at the end of military use of the Spitfire.

Bit more unusual this time - Japan's WW2 version of the Me262 - the Kikka. Only made one flight I believe.

They used Junkers engines transported from Germany by freight carrying U-boats. By the latter end of the war even those had less than a 50% chance of getting through.

Following the excellent example by Unicorn1:

https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/42805-non-railway-modelling/page/33/

I was inspired to build the same Heller 1/24th Renault T6 bus kit. Most of what's left to do is painting

and inserting the seats and glazing. It's quite fun to work on such a big scale.

There are some impressive architectural models on this firm's website  https://www.modelhouses.co.uk/, including a reconstruction of Henry VIII's Nonsuch palace https://www.modelhouses.co.uk/portfolio-item/nonsuch-palace/  and a model of Auschwitz with 6000 figures https://www.modelhouses.co.uk/the-auschwitz-model-the-experience-of-studying-the-unimaginable/
