Dave I believe it's main role was to teach control of a "tail-dragger". In DERA/QinetiQ we had quite a "heritage" fleet, with the last two Meteors - the last one arriving at Boscombe with about one hour of frame life left - and the BAC-111 which in the early 1970s at Bedford, originated instrumented landing technology and techniques as now used across the world. A good friend of mine organised the repaint of the Lightning gate guardian.

Karhedron
A little more warhammer modelling today. I wanted to convert up a Wolf Lord using limited edition Space Marine captain as a base. Always slightly nerve-wracking taking a scalpel to a limited edition model but I don't plan to resell it so I guess it doesn't really matter. Here is the artwork on the box if you build it "stock". And here is mine after a rummage through my bits box and painting in space wolf blue/grey livery. 8
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted March 12, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12, 2020 Working on this 1/.48th Trumpeter Dolphin US Coast Guard helicopter. I won't mention where I got it from but it was a bit of a surprise to open up the box (bought as new) and find that someone had already been at the decal sheet. That may also explain a mysterious missing bit from one of the sprues which necessitated a bit of scratchbuilding. The interior is not correct for this variant of the Dolphin but I was quite happy to build it as it stood. Next up will be some complex masking for the paint scheme.
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted March 19, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 19, 2020 Only a few fiddly bits left to add to the Dolphin. The kit doesn't include any decals for the white and blue stripes on the tail, nor the thin stripes under the cockpit, so these had to be masked and painted by hand. As you can see I only just managed to squeeze in the Coast Guard insignia! The clever thing would have been to measure it first, then work out how wide the white bit needed to be. The main body colour is a mix of red and orange.
Popular Post Georgeconna
Took My Just Finished 1/48 SS Talacre out for its Maiden voyage today and it looked as good as it sailed! Water level was a bit low for a full steam but I do need to Trail a lighter / Smaller battery to bring it a cm or so out of the water. 605_0589a by Georgeconna32, on Flickr 605_0591a by Georgeconna32, on Flickr 605_0596a by Georgeconna32, on Flickr 605_0597a by Georgeconna32, on Flickr 605_0598a by Georgeconna32, on Flickr 19
Sotto
I like Talacre-the smoking chimney adds so much to it- is it 'real' or added to the photograph?

RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted March 24, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 24, 2020 I remember queuing up outside the Avenue Cinema in Belfast with my Mum and my Sister in 1978 to see the film Grease. The Avenue was a real fleapit in Royal Avenue and is now long gone. Next door was the Great Eastern Hotel, also long gone, but at the time being used by the Army. I remember the Humber Pigs starting up and going out on patrol as we waited. This is a 1:43 scale resin and white metal kit of this 1970s icon (at least in Ulster) by Mountford Miniatures. Not forgetting the Saracens Cheers Darius
