Just the canopy to be trimmed, fitted and painted now, then the wheels and prop can go back on and she's ready to fly - although it won't be me who takes her up for the first time - or any time soon!

That is looking sleek!

  • 2 weeks later...

Nearly finished the build of my Tamiya Pz.Kpfw IV Ausf F. I replaced the two MG34 with Aber turned offerings as they are so much better (albeit at a price). The link and length tracks are very good and quite easy to assemble. I thinned a few pieces down but the whole kit is very nice. In a couple more days I will start painting.

Having a good time, a change does one good!

Regards,

Any comments on the Trumpeter Sea Vixen, Darius? I've been tempted by it.

Hi Barry,

I have been away from Aircraft Modelling lately - focusing on Railway Modelling - so haven’t really seen the Trumpeter kit in the flesh.

I have a couple of Airfix 1:48 Sea Vixen FAW2 kits in the stash along with an Alley Cat resin FAW1 conversion set that I may get round to...

Cheers

An excellent build of a very fine aeroplane. It must have been at the pinnacle of piston engined fighter aircraft before the total domination of jets occurred .

I have always wondered why we don't see more vac-formed kits in railway modelling. Ideal for short runs and small producers. Here in France, there are even vac-formed car bodies at 1:1 scale.

There were a few building kits in the 1970s (e.g. Formacraft) and the Davric Leyland Tiger bus was a combination of injection moulded chassis/radiator with a vac-formed body, but they were relatively uncommon. Roxey mouldings coach kits originally had vacuum formed parts - roof, panelled sides, etc.

Another vacform kit - a Fairey Gannet AS Mk1 built from the 1:48 scale Dynavector kit with a scratch built wing fold.  In the short time they were in production, Dynavector produced some superb kits.
