OO gauge Turbot

From the ep samples, the Dapol version has more accurate side trusses to the chassis. The Kernow chassis has overdeep side trusses and is also much too high in respect of body and buffer height.

Agreed, the Dapol version looks spot-on , I blathed quite a lot on the Kernow version thread about the truss height being too low well before the thing was released but to no avail, so my money will go to Dapol who yet again have pulled a rabbit out of a hat with these, I feel (same as the Freightliner HIA'a etc ............. great looking wagon for a good price)

I am rather reluctant to help, as there is kit for the Turbot already available, and it seems a shame that everyone is having a go at Cambrian.

Hi Paul, Did rakes of Turbots ever use a brake van, Ive looked through many photos but cannot find an answer as most pics only show individual wagons.

A full rake wouldn't require one since they were vacuum fitted and so the entire rake was sufficiently braked.

For example here:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/lickeybanker/11529707055/in/photolist-iyQLdF-dV2Zn6-299rETf-otd91u-WWUaQn-2ac2Wpj-boY9EH-6EvqkE-4F9BS3-79dnqr-dQQgf9-S4LGox-b14c4p-81TE5C-6Uhabc-2az6mhb-5JiiyW-dj3FsU-WvEpKu-dNUQXy-8c4Abp-r1kAac-pRuJZK-o6V9ch-qvULCF-ow6Da2-o1dJDK-vE5Fx-bZAeFJ-onF7EQ-PdtjtM-aXYUDr-VEFHEs-dJa4ag-p7sfso-iV7fQb-2aLDPvb-9Fb15F-nZUzy-Hq3WX5-8dGLGD-oGvWT1-8BTXab-28SCKDX-pUnguB-dyxbxu-68GYJG-DqHGcZ-4DQLjY-o5ou2B

That's also true for a mixed rake of different wagon types if they are all vacuum braked like Turbots.

For example, Turbots and Grampus:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/lickeybanker/33049110260/in/photolist-Smrk4S-depPba-8Ky9bB-7Wd7jG-9EWrPN-34oaHx-pPPdoj-9FeFjm-depQrc-9FaC4H-5XU9Y5-TygM1K-pPKytF-XgkWVV-7b7YYk-XdyAK7-otnGD6-4fGxvN-7W3MU3-7Wa5dV-pPQvMW-21Qatrs-fSXnP2-7ZQEA9-YvKibw-XgkWj4-fdZnAs-SsvmZp-9Fdhzo-9MAVd3-pxizC5-8DSYaM-9EU3Ee-jmiz4G-9FcWuj-7WcLwQ-7c3rQB-fkH5Qn-drmwJ2-9FbkoA-pxg6rR-k85myY-depuJE-ebfHxb-oSU5D3-nZpZjg-dEFEkd-bTUaNR-csdu5A-9FctcE

However, it they were marshalled in a rake with unfitted wagons then, yes, a brake van would be required in all cases. A quick search didn't yield a suitable photograph as an example I'm afraid.

This echoes what I heard off the rep at Warley also. He'd said he'd hoped that they'd be in shops by Christmas, but this was now 'unlikely'

Had a good look at Warley too, and I have to say, they capture the look of the prototype really well for me. Looking forward to getting a rake ordered up.

Six and a half years just to bring a wagon to the market from a mainstream producer. And yes I know it's not just Dapol guilty of this. That's what not to believe

They re-started the project from scratch (went through R&D, CADs, EPs etc) and delivered under the new management in a few months.

Your point being?

They did the same thing with the Class 68 also. If at all the new management should be applauded for this quick progress, not made fun of.

What do people think of it from the photographs? Does it look better than the KMRC one?

Judge for yourselves

Here is a picture taken from the Hattons website (Hopefully that's ok) The pinholes for grabrails don't look as if they'll be that big an issue to correct. Some filler or paint will get rid of that. It certainly wont deter me from buying them.

Note to self. Beware of people with fishing rods.

Agreed, it's literally a 5 min job to fill up those holes. Expecting Dapol to have extra slides to avoid that would've resulted in a higher cost.

My long awaited Dutch liveried Turbots have arrived. Just time to have a quick look at one during my lunch break. Initial inspection has me very impressed with them. I have no photos to hand for comparison but they look right to me. Truss depth looks good. Well done to Dapol for these.
