Ressaldar
Hi Jon G, great set of photos. Any chance of putting a date on 37057 on the tanks - it's a particular favourite of mine and would help for detailing purposes etc. regards Mike

yellowvanman
Before tractors became common on the southern there were a few workings ..Banger blue 37227 comes of the Reading line at Basing.this was the house-hold coal railfreight service from Didcot to Totton yard( I think)..not sure how long it ran..this was 1988. big T
I have worked on 227 in preservation, and must admit I haven't seen that many photos of her whilst in service. One of those elusive engines that managed to slip a lot of people by! Here is 227 alongside 47 640 being prepped for the 2007 Spring Gala: and at Shack prior to working a line inspection:
Brush47337
Back in the early 80's we thought the "subtle change" from full skirts, round buffers and black headcodes - ruined these engines. Looking through this thread - we had nothing to get steamed up about - the next 30 years were (in my opinion) an exercise in how to trash a decent design. Can any of them be seen as an improvement? This old print of mine taken at Eastfield Depot on 6th August 1981 shows what I recall as the first sign of change up our way as 37's were being drafted in from East Anglia and noses were changing. Sorry you guys had to endure much worse than this.
Jon.G
Happy new year to everyone. Heres a couple more, i've added more none standard liverys and unusual 37's rather than the usual machines hope you like. Cheers, Jon.
Clay Country
Great photos Jon, thanks for sharing them. Does anyone know the story behind the two-tone grey/blue stripe livery on 167? I've never seen that one before.
Jon.G
Thankyou yes i think i have pritty much every 37 not in every livery they wore but the 1's i missed in my days of fotting them i make up by picking the odd pic up at open days and gala's too 37167 was an early version of MAINLINES livery a test i think done down south by either stratford old oak or stewarts lane, i think it looked quite nice saw this machine in coal many times and then to see her like this was a surprise might be worth modelling her like this using Bachmann's 37239 model has any 1 done this 37 like this yet? Cheers, Jon.

leekman
Attached is a rather crappy shot of 37227 in blue passing Gaer Junction with parcels stock in the summer of 1985. For some reason I do not have a decent shot of it either, the only other one I could find is a distant broadside at Landore, but again thats a blurry one.
