Down_Under
+1 for 7050 Mike. quite a modern looking loco compared to other designs from the 30s out there. any particular reason the wheels on the prototype were so small? RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted November 12, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 12, 2020 Production etches will be in our next order (after the one we are expecting which includes the C14), we're trying to get this before Christmas. No idea why the wheels are so small but some early Barclays had very small wheels as well. 7050 was quite modern in some respects, it was the only one of the LMS trial locos with electric starting and it also had controls duplicated on each side of the cab. The original Allen engine proved to be unreliable and was replaced with a Gardner 153hp 6L3 in 1944. This needed a new gearbox as the original Allen engine rotated the other way (anti-clockwise) but still a Wilson type as fitted to most Drewrys. 4

RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted November 12, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 12, 2020 The "real" one Tony, the other one will have to wait quite a while yet. 1 1

As the wheels seem to be Pug wheels from my understanding, could it be that the loco was built using "off the shelf" components? Mike.

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted November 12, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 12, 2020 Hi Mike, I'll put my name down for a 7050 as well then, please. Thanks.

Built at Dick Kerr in Preston it worked there first, later at Salford and Agecroft until taken over by the War Department in 1940 like most of the LMS diesel shunter fleet. It was sold to the WD in 1943 and worked at a large number of MoD establishments until 1979. It then went to the Museum of Army Transport in Beverley until that closed. it's now in the NRM - I measured it up at York when it had just been repainted from army green to its original black livery. Seen here in the NRM workshop in its army green livery as it arrived from Beverley. After repainting in its LMS livery.
clowe999
I’d be down for a 7050 kit too. Just got the 7051 and it will be started before Christmas.

D-A-T
Good news for the C14. The Southern one, being much smaller, could be known as “Junior”.....
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted November 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 13, 2020 Next in the pipeline will be some more 7mm kits, etches on order for these now. The small Harton loco is nearly ready to go now but will get some lost wax cast buffers (not ordered yet). The Hunslet 50T 325hp 0-6-0DH has been under construction for some time but now ready to go with all moulding patterns made. This one is built in the style of the earliest ones with simple handrails and external casing door hinges. The later type hinges and a compressor housing for air brake fitted locos are included as options. I've done most of the patterns for the early version of the Hunslet 05 but this waiting for the final version of the cab interior and controls. A test etch for the controls is on order and it needs a pattern for the seats, otherwise all ready to go. This covers all the of first two batches of BR locos up to D2573 and industrials. Buffers won't be included, these are BR standard pattern from NMRS. The kit will have the fully compensated arrangement from the 4mm version (the 325hp 0-6-0DH has only partial compensation - the 4mm one has none) Both these Hunslets have only one set of frame spacers, they were both built with narrow frames, axleboxes (mouldings in the kit) on the outside for standard gauge, inside for 3ft 6in gauge - before the S7 brigade start complaining that the frames are too narrow. 11
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted November 13, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 13, 2020 We have some LNER V4 etches available now, price is £51.50 including postage. Mouldings for the chimney and dome are included. 2
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted November 14, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 14, 2020 Latest test etch arrived this morning from PPD, this is mainly the SR Ashford 0-6-0DE 15201-3 but includes a few other bits as well. One is an etch for the LMS high sided tender I built for 40936 - only one available (I have two but one already booked by Blandford on here) and it won't be repeated, price is £32 + £1.50 postage.

Thats good news about the SR shunters, look forward to one of those in due course. Are these similar to the LNER 15000 shunters, apart from the wheels? Are these similar to the LNER 15000 shunters, apart from the wheels? No, they are the Southern version of the EE/HL single motor 350hp (12000/1 and 15100) and they have ordianry spoked wheels. Many of the differences are due to the Southern asking for bigger wheels, as happened with the 08 - this is generally supposed to be for higher speed but I suspect it was more to do with keeping the coupling rods further from the third rail. 2
Wagonmaster
Thanks for that Michael. I'm getting mixed up with the Class 12, 15211 etc. They are similar, but have BFB wheels. I always thought the larger wheels were for improved clearance from the 3rd rail!
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted November 14, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 14, 2020 The other SR diesels with the BFB wheels are their version of the standard EE twin motor 350hp 0-6-0.

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted November 15, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 15, 2020 Mike, could I ask what the drive arrangements are for the 7mm Harton 2/10? These little locos were part of my life as I grew up next to the colliery, and a 7mm model of one certainly appeals, although totally inappropriate for my O gauge layout. I just have concerns about availability for me of the drive components. While I can order on line, I can't exactly nip to a shop to get things from the UK. Cheers! 6
