Black_bear
What materials do you recommend for making these kits? Is it better to use plastic - and if so what gauge? Or is card better - and if so, what thickness. I am moving to N from OO and have the OO kits which I can use (scaled down)
Coombe Barton
In the free downloads from ScaleScenes it gives instructions for both 4mm and 2mm, including card thicknesses.
Jellicoe
Scalescenes kits recommend appropriate card thicknesses in the instructions. I find that thick card is difficult to source these days (at least two art shops in my area have closed down) so I now use 40-thou plastic card for my N-scale buildings. I print onto A4-sized computer label stock which adheres brilliantly to plastic card and there are no problems with warping arising from shrinkage of the cover papers or moisture absorption. Metalhip
The instructions do give recommended card thicknesses for "N" gauge which is what I build, however,if as a general rule "N" is half the size of "00" some of the thicknesses seem wrong. "N" heavy card is 1mm which is half the "00" size "N" medium card is 200gsm which is less than a quarter the "00" thickness,I laminate two pieces together instead. "N" light card is 80 gsm which is thinner than the paper I print on and as far as I can find out card is not made that thin,I use some 160gsm card.
