NOTTAKLOO (N Gauge Entry) Summary Topic

Recommended Posts

Here is a summary of my entry to this year's challenge.

Original build thread/topic http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/37243-nottakloo-n-gauge-entry/

I entered the challenge on a spur of the moment decision and haven't had cause to regret it. The original plan was for a high level station and low level PW yard, this morphed into 2 running lines on the upper level and a single running line and yard headshunt on the lower level that would be operational; due to events on the domestic front the final diorama ended up being 2 high level and 1 low level plus head shunt that are disused and slowly rotting/decaying into the ground whilst the owning company decides what to do about them.

Have I learnt anything from my entry? YES, I'm nowhere near as good a modeller as I would like to be, I need to plan the build and concept with more care before commiting tools and hands to materials and the overall build; finally I need to temper ambition with reality and not try to punch too far above my weight.

Am I pleased with what I've produced? YES, but with qualification. There are areas of the diorama that could benefit from better attention to detail and improvements in my modelling skills (such as they are).

Would I enter a similar challenge again? YES, you bet I would. It has been enormous fun for me and a learning curve.

I'll post a few pics in here, the rest can be found in the original build thread/topic.

Hopefully this entry will raise a few smiles.
