Burkitt
Following a suggestion in the thread on my N scale 1995 stock, I'm having a look at using Halfords sprays for the four car train. Can anyone recommend the best colours from the Halfords spray range to represent London Underground red and blue, the dark grey shade used on the front, rear and underframe of 95 stock, and the light grey/silver colour of the roof? The specifications for the red and blue are given in six different systems on page 11 of this pdf from TfL http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/corporate/lu-basic-elements-standard-issue02.pdf, and for all other colours including Underground Dark Grey on page 12 of this pdf http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/corporate/lu-signs-manual-issue04.pdf in the NCS system. However the Halfords website only seems to give the carmakers' brand names for colours, and I can't see any LU colours in the railways-Halfords conversion charts which have previously appeared on the forum. I'm hoping that someone has previously used Halfords sprays for a tube model, as spray paints being rather expensive I'd rather avoid taking a trial and error approach if at all possible. Many thanks in advance, Paul
Matloughe
I am in the process of painting a model - however its a slightly different era. Halfords Grey Primer is a dead ringer for the Grey Roof it'd need a coat of clear varnish to seal it and give it that shine the painted roofs have. For the under frame I am currently using Blackboard Paint - brush applied to represent that however my model is of 1923 G Stock so not sure how that would help. For 'Train Red' which I think is a deeper more rich red then the current LU Bus/Fire Engine Red; the older Train Red paint I am using I think its Ford Carmine Red. RMweb Gold Revolution Mike Posted October 13, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 13, 2011 Hi Paul Here is the TFL colour standards (which includes all sorts of paint reference numbers): http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/corporate/tfl-colour-standard-issue03.pdf IIRC Halfords will produce spray paints to your specification provided you give them the correct reference number, though I can't remember which ref no they use! If you find any good matches then I would be interested to hear as I have some of your bodies to paint up as well! Thanks, Mike
