It doesn't look too bad, not perfect I agree but I'm so glad it is weathered as I have it on preorder from Rails and £110 inc postage is a really decent price. royaloak
They are still too bright to be prototypical but considering what others are offering they are much better, and the yellowing is a really nice touch.
w124bob
This has just got expensive, as I preordered Caley 812 (as presevered) at the weekend. Now three class 27's payed for, slightly disappointed that 030 comes weathered as I chose that one to save doing a renumber and it remained in pretty good condition right upto withdrawl. This will be deweathered first before I do my own, I spent a fair bit of time tracking down 3 drop window 27's in their final 12 months of service . Also it ticked the ploughs and Westie box as well, two boiler examples will be 040 vac braked , Haymarket logo and 048 dual braked , unusual as it carried standard size numbers right to the end. I've elected to collect the trio personally from Rails of Sheffield so may finish up with a very empty wallet tomorrow evening!
37501
Have ordered 27033 with HA logo as I wasn’t sure of the factory weathering on the Eastfield one. If I hear of anyone successfully removing the heavy weathering from the yellow ends, I might buy this one as well... John

Phoenix Precision P.148 Warning Panel Yellow (post 1985) (Dull) needed a very good stir !

John I feel like i dodged a bullet on the ED one, i’m going to renumber my 27/1 instead.. 27104 later became 27048 complete with ED scottie dog. w124bob
Well I have just got back from trip to Sheffield, as the shop was busy I didn't linger much to the relief of my wallet! In my experience deweathering can usually achieved with either brush cleaner or T Cut on a cotton bud and a bit of elbow grease. Once I've given 030 a bit of a run I'll see about removing some of the brown sludge, especially off the front.

PJ10 029 could also be improved by painting the window surrounds black although they were not black on all 27s.

Funnily enough I was thinking exactly the same whilst watching a dvd recently, 27040 was doing an excellent steam loco impression as it departed the bays at Dundee. The dvd came from here http://www.dieseltractionvideo.co.uk/Available-Titles/available-titles.html sadly the link to the class 27 dvd doesn't work so maybe out of stock but might be worth an email to check. Most of the action is from the final years with alot of Edinburgh Waverley and Fife circle action.

Agree. I’ve ordered 27104 for that very reason. Somehow it just looks better than the others. Edit: Presumably the black is the rubber sealant round the windows. tractor_37260
A BR Blue 27 with sliding cab side windows (and plated over tablet catcher recesses) would have been good, don't think Heljan have covered this version.

So hopefully 27030 will be acceptable. After waiting a long time for a new batch of TOPS 27s from Heljan, this new batch is a bit overwhelming. I want them all! But bank account says only one, maybe two, or three if I can manage without food for a bit! Brian Got my 27001 and 27030 from RoS this morning. Happy with both, but in my opinion the weathering on 27001 is extremely good for a factory-produced model. Very happy.

That's really interesting/a relief, as my immediate reaction upon seeing these was "where are the black window surrounds?" when I saw them on the Hattons website. w124bob
For those that have purchased or are thinking about the weathered 030 here is what can be done with a little effort, Wilko turpentine substitute and a box of cheap cotton buds I removed nearly all the as bought weathering and then gave everthing a thin wash of Humbrol 33/62 mix , cleaned up some the body again and added a few areas of darker weathering over what remained of the Heljan applied dirty. Add a bit of wear to the doors, dry brush a little white in places around the front and thats basically it. Ploughs are mounted using a rectangle of plasticard glued to the rear of the buffer beam rather than the very breakable Heljan brackets, coupling is a simple wire loop as on this 26 Edited January 28, 2020 by w124bob Added info
Ouroborus
I almost feel embarrassed after the last post, but here's mine, straight out of the box alongside it's cousins. Three different models, three different shades of BR blue. Heljan do make some lovely models when they set their mind to it.
