RMweb Premium Banger Blue Posted November 10, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 10, 2011 A dilapidated rail swing bridge in Oxford is to be renovated through a £90,000 grant from a heritage fund. http://www.bbc.co.uk...dshire-15632994 http://www.oxfordpre...swingbridge.php
brian daniels
I too saw this in the Oxford Mail this morning. I can't help but think it needs a bit more spent on it. Will they take off those lengths of rail on top and put the proper track back?
Rugd1022
Lovely shot there Brian.... you wouldn't think it was the same place looking at it now, Oxford station is gradually becoming hemmed in by all the new builds going on. It just shows how important photo archives like yours really are
big T
Some good railway related news for a change! Great shot Brian.
clarkea1
When the BBC article says it fell out of use in 1994 - I presume they mean it stopped operating as a swing bridge - Brian's photo is clearly post 1944!!! Anyone know any more details? Regards Alastair
Glorious NSE
The other article linked to in the OP has much more credible information.
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted November 10, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 10, 2011 Is this by any chance related to Chiltern's EWvergreen 3 which will see more traffic coming in from the Bicester direction? Jamie
Guest oldlugger
Nice photo Brian, do you have an other pictures of the old (LNWR?) station and goods yard? I remember seeing a few sidings with 16t mineral wagons in the old complex circa 1983. I've always been very interested in the railways of Oxford and the Fairford branch. Cheers Simon
brian daniels
I am affraid Simon I have nothing else showing Rewley Road. This refurbishment has nothing to do with the Bicester line upgrade Jamie as It's totally isolated from the railway now. If you tried to run over it you would enter the Said Business School via the back door!

Having first gone through a block of flats standing on the site of the LNW route/ almost onto the Exchange (siding) which was immediately next to the LNW line and was originally the route for all freight transfers between the two Companies - I think it lasted until resignalling in 1973 although long out of use for its original purpose.
