Par/St. Blazey area.

Hi.

 

Out of interest ( geography was never my strong point ) as you stand on Par platform looking towards the road bridge along the mainline to the right, is that the Newquay branch?

 

And with your back to the road bridge, on the right of the mainline ( often tampers and DMU, clay trains) is that a freight branch to par docks?

Forgive the silly questions I only know how to get to par docks/station by car. and how do locos get access to St. Blazey depot? Via Newquay branch?

 

I'm not local to that end of Cornwall.

Hi, I don't lnow the area either but looking at Google maps, I'd say that if you stand on Par station with your back facing North (the road bridge) then the line that curves around to the right is the Newquay branch.

If you have a look at the map you should be able to work out the route to the depot. Its actually quite interesting, I just ended up at the Tamar bridge following the line North from Par.

If you want a birds eye view of this location then try Bing maps....

Hi, its funny you say google maps, it just occured to me so i had a look.

yes i was under that impression too after looking at the map, the single line branch curving to the right ( past the depot, destict turn-table ) carried on to Newquay.

 

then coming back on its self is the clay line to the docks...Also sidings and other stuff.

largee area's of white guesing thats clay dries haha!

That view north from the bridge is extremely 'model-able' all by itself and looks very Cornish! Looking at it now though, you wouldn't think there used to be a couple of cabins in the cess on the left where all that vegetation has taken over. One of those cabins had glazing similar to most GWR signal boxes, with the standard 'three over two' framing and at one time was painted very distinctively in WR chocolate and cream. Took a similar view from the bridge myself a couple of years back.....

Jee! i guess i always go on completely the wrong days! :/

 

would be nice to catch frieght trains in Cornwall guess im just unlucky haha!

The freight is basically as follows:

 

Mondays / Wed / Fri

Morning CDA's Fowey to Goonbarrow & return (approx 1000 dep Par on return trip)

Afternoon Fowey to Parkandillack and evening return (approx 13.20 at Par on the way down) 1900 - 2100 return

 

Tuesday / Thursday

3 round trips Fowey to Goonbarrow & return

 

Wed & Fri

0700 approx St Blazey to Parkandillack - polybulks. Wed takes fuel to Penzance afterwards. Usually back at Par 1500 - 1600.

Return as required depending on loading etc.

 

Thursday morning early trip to Par Harbour with Polybulks. Usually back by 1000 - 1100

 

Wednesday morning 05.45 Par overnight down freight.

Thursday evening / Friday evening Up loaded freight leaves BZ around 18.00, but can sometimes run early.

Thanks so much for the rough guide on the freight flows.

 

Your a star. Was trying to find out the traffic flows from other sauces but were rubbish to be honest!

 

 

Guess what I'll be doing on my day off tomorrow lol!!

The wed loco fuel is due Long Rock depot 1300 normal load 6 x TTA depart 1400 with however many empties. Nice shot of a 158 at Par. Not seen in Kernow now.

 

That was a surprise to us too. That train with an Exeter crew could throw anything on a Sunday. I have pictures on the webs ite of 142s at Penzance. That was the only 158 I've seen since the end of Wessex.

these were taken from the foot crossing between Par & St. Blazey.

I've been out to take some pictures of an old style clay dry being demolished near Par Harbour and thought they may be of interest to anyone planning to model one in the future. This one is just West of Par by the Par Harbour road (Par Moor). The building is in the process of being taken down.

Arnt they the dries that had the low bridge ( the one thats now the path to Spit Beach) that lead to Alfred and Judy been used as shunter engines at the Docks?

 

Yes I believe they were the ones mate. I dont know why they're being demolished, I cant see that the land there is particularly desirable!! Just thought I'd grab some photos before they're gone.
