Hi all. Been decluttering and browsing this thread and noted that this E Rankine Gray book gets a few mentions. I have a copy - here it is - probably from 1950-ish when it then cost a princely half crown. I don't use it so, to spread the joy, if someone who would use it wants it, it's a freebie. E-mail me and I'll post it within the UK.

This was one of the first things I ever read about model railways - it set me off on the path of building as much stuff as I can.

Thanks

Away back in the late sixties, I knew ERG - inclined to be a bit gruff, but  interesting to talk too - I used to visit him in his shop in the basement in Boscombe, Hants (as it was in those days before they bu99ered about with county boundaries, and buy domes and chimneys for home built NG locos

Lots of London Underground models from Mr Conner are available. They make very nice models as well. I made this C-stock with double glazing, including no smoking signs and recessed doors. It is on a brass chassis, but could do with better bogies. The other end is motorised with a Spud. Interior is under construction.

I have a DLR 2 car train in production at the moment. This will run on 3 black beetles, one powered and 2 dummy and will feature a fully detailed interior as well

Now that actually looks rather good!

I doubt it. IIRC, British copyright lasts for 70 years after the author's death. Anybody got a biography for Mr. Gray?

Hi Guy,

I'm trying to find that out...

The publication date was 1944 - the copy discussed above is dated 1948.

My other knowledge to date has come from -

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/uk.rec.models.rail/51eI7PLUYa0

This includes details of a history of ERG done byu Alan Cliff in MRE for July 1998.

I don't have a copy of that (yet), but I am trying to find it in my loft or obtain it elsewhere.

Thanks

Hi all,

I have managed (at last) to get this scanned and made into a pdf.......

This has not been an easy task!

I've had to manipulate the images to get as clear a reproductions as possible.

As a result the 'SMALL' version is over 30mb!

The master version was over 60 Gb!

So - If you want to access a copy and download it.................

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9TGJh1acKpwTmxzaHhDWWR2eG8

Should take you to the file!

If not letting you download - let me know

If problem with document - let me know

In fact - Just let me know either way!

Thanks

Thanks for scanning that and making it available SM.

Now what can we make....

Hi there,

By using the techniques in the booklet - the world is your oyster!

I'm currently using some of them to produce a card version of the Darjeeling loco shed I've shown on one of my other threads.

Also trying to uase my Cricut machine to score the grooves to represent the verticle planking effect and the scalloped shape of the valencing.

So far - Phil 0 - Machine 5

Not happy at £1.00 per wasted sheet!

Thanks

This is my first post on RM web. Thank you very much for taking the time to scan this excellent resource. I look forward to a lot of nostalgic reading as well as looking through my old copies of MRN, RM and MRC for some suitably exotic wagons for my new micro layout.

Best wishes

Signalman Rich

Hello, I'm new to the site and looking to start in modelling.

This book looks like the thing I am looking for as I want to scratch-build with cardboard.

Unfortunately the link no longer works.

Is anyone able to help?
