Personally I've got the lined version on pre-order and am very tempted by the malachite version as well.

Having both a Beattie well tank and an 02 already I'm more than satisfied with the quality of Kernows product.I would expect from the knowledgeable people on board with this item that it will be a case of more of the same.

I'm debating these, I can't imagine they were used on the Brighton - Eastbourne route ever haha, but at the same time It's nice to have variety from all the Maunsells and I already have Hornby 's ex LSWR carriages wrongly travelling through East Sussex lol, in my mind as long as I have an exLSWR loco pulling them it's only half wrong :P likewise I've been debating an O2 in SR black. ;)

I'm sure someone will be able to tell me when these carriages went to malachite? Same as the Maunsells or a bit later?

I copy below the information I posted earlier in this thread here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/48268-kernow-commission-ex-lswr-gate-stock-pull-push-sets/?p=1940026

With respect to liveries of the respective sets for the period of 1939 - 1947 I advise as follows:

Set 363
Olive Green Livery 1933 to c1950
BR Crimson Livery with yellow and black waist lining c1950
Subsequent re-varnish in BR Crimson lining virtually hidden

Set 373
Olive Green Livery 1933 to c1947
SR unlined Malachite Green c1947 Standard SR LH number position
BR(s) Green (Likely heavily varnished Malachite) with appropriate SxxxxS number at the RH end of the waist

Set 374
Olive Green Livery 1933 to c1945
SR unlined Malachite Green c1945 Standard SR LH number position

I am surprised that the olive green livery lasted so long. It seemed to be British Railways policy to retain one pull-push set in malachite green livery as a heritage set so perhaps British Railways chose 373.

Also I love all this discussion on fine details, especially as everyone seems to be happy to ignore the elephant in the room, namely the the track gauge.

That's in the fight club forum.

You have to be invited to that forum and the thing about the fight club forum is you don't talk about the fight club forum

Ooooo can open, worms.....everywhere.

So, wrong gauge, wrong height rail,

Wrong weight in proportion to stock and loco's, wrong couplers, wrong power, wrong wheels, wrong springiness in the buffers.

Well I for one, am sure glad someone out there is modelling something perfectly given that list. Lol

I prefer playing with trains to counting rivets.

Some it seems prefer to play with rivets........

The Gate Stock samples were in the cabinet at Ally Pally with the chassis turned round, they look superb.

I think Kernow need to invest in a bigger cabinet though, they have so much commissioned stuff in there you can't get a good look at everything.

We'll know they're a serious manufacturer when they have a walk in section in the middle of their stall complete with exclusive models for frequent customers

1.  Excellent news.

2.  They do indeed have quite a number of commissions coming through about now.  It ins't always possible to predict accurately when a project might be delivered when it is instigated but going back to the initial announcements the gate stock and the other items now appearing in a near-ready or on-the-shelf condition have been spread out over several years so might in an ideal world have been delivered likewise and thus not loaded the cabinet quite so heavily!  I know that cabinet well.  And just how heavy it is.  A larger one would take at least two people to safely shift.

Had time to admire the samples at Ally Pally and was impressed

I have a BR set on order and the like that they have correctly sheeted sides for most of the length of the coach. The rivet/bolt detail looks very fine in the flesh but I think has fooled some into thinking the sides on the BR ones are fully panelled

Now have to decide whether I can justify a SR Lined Maunsell Green livery set.................

Dave, you forgot wrong material - unless the plan is to use steel and wood instead of plastic? (CJL)

Nearly. Set 373 was sent to Newhaven for scrapping... instead of going to the Bluebell.

  • 1 month later...

It appears the images on the Gate stock have been updated, final livery samples perhaps or maybe even production samples i don't know but my SR Maunsell lined green looks excellent apart from the bright wheels.

I'm sure the last images had the foot steps in the wrong place and unpainted handles.

They have also added a production statement 'production in progress - expected end July 2017' against all versions. I believe this is the first time they have stated a release date. Wallet alert!!

Don't panic just yet, just received this email from Greg at Kernow after checking my card details were still current, well they were first ordered in 2011!

"We are awaiting the second (and hopefully final) set of samples for the Gate Stock soon.

Assuming they are approved and a production slot is available, delivery should be about 4-6 months from now."

Still time to save the pennies...........

Must just remember to keep breathing..............

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but there is a short film on the BFI website called 'Rover Makes Good'. Which is set near Callington. The opening has an O2 with gate stock arriving at a station ,and close up of the gated vestibule. Also a brief shot of a gate stock train with an Ivatt 2-6-2T at the end of the film.

Those of us living outside of the UK, unfortunately are not able to view BFI films. Penalized for living in the colonies I suppose.
