The Black Hat
Hello all, MODEL WEEKEND 21-22 JANUARY 2012 - 10 to 4 BOTH DAYS Following the success of the First Model Weekend that the 2nd Bishop Auckland Scout Group did last year, the Group's Executive is behind the event being repeated this next January. The idea of the event is to showcase the models that the children in the three sections of the group, have made for a public vote. Visitors cast a vote for which model they think is best, out of the Beavers (6- 8), Cubs (8-10 1/2) and Scouts (10 1/2 to 14) which this year will feature models made of boats and planes as a link to the theme of 'Land, Sea and Air' a game all sections play. Model Railways, and the North East Restoration Slot Car Group (which races Scalextric) will cater for the Land part of the theme. The Exhibition will see the following layouts at the Scout Hall: Bishop Auckland Modern Image and preservation 00 guage All DCC Sound a layout returning with the Cub Leaders running the layout. http://www.rmweb.co....ishop-auckland/ [*]Leeds Weeklyn Hill Steam/Diesel Transition period 00 gauge layout DCC Sound and DCC Mobile operated making a return to the show following an extension to the layout http://www.rmweb.co....ds-weeklyn-hil/ [*]Langton Steam/Diesel Transition periond O Gauge layout DCC Sound, Lights and Smoke! His website is here: http://darlingtonrai...co.uk/my_store/ Our visitors this year are the North East Restoration Slot Car group which will display a series of slot cars, and Scalextric items - even bring your own Scalextric cars to race around the circuit that will feature in the hall. Expect some competition on who is the best racer of the day and weekend! Finally, Mr Derek Ward will be showcasing part of his antique collection featuring memoribilia of transport, such as cast railway and road signs, petrol pumps and much more. This proved to be an eye opening and thrilling chance to view such a collection last year that featured pedal cars, and other childhood items. Bet this years is no exception. Refreshments are available for those that visit, with toilet facilities and disabled access available. Parking is slightly limited at the Scout Hall, but nearby car parks are available around the corner and at Morrisons and Asda supermarkets. The nearby council car parks are free on Sunday. This event is run by the Scout Assosiation, for the benefit of getting people to view the models that the children have made. Any member of any section and any Scout Group from anywhere at all that arrives in uniform to view gets free admission. Last year someone came up from Skipton! Prices for others that arrive are £5 for families (of 2 adults, 2 children) with adults at £2, children at £1. The Scout Hall is off a side road off Kingsway, Bishop Auckland, which runs behind the main high street. Access is on an access road next to the Nursing Home that has been built on the former football ground.
Ed-farms
Looking forward to this one, trying to make as much progress with Weeklyn Hill as possible so it will have as much scenery as possible but time is lacking at present so it may not be totally finished but we will try our best. The Black Hat
Meanwhile there has been a slight change to the items appearing. As of Monday evening I have been told that the North East Restoration Club was closing this week, unable to fulfil their obligations to us this weekend. At short notice some Scalextric has been sourced so people can still race, while the Meccano Society will be returning to display a number of scale models made from the Scale engineering hobby. Cubs models feature a number of planes and boats for the theme - though Akela still needs to finish his! 5 layouts, sound, smoke, steam and cake..... what more could you want? Sir Hadyn
Went this morning with smallest daughter who was transfixed by the Meccano. A nice atmosphere again, Charlie Walton's Conistone is lovely, and Mike F managed to lift more money from my pocket. Very tempted to take the steam roller along next year and park it outside. Well done David, hope it's been worthwhile and plenty of folk come tomorrow.
Ed-farms
I am now back and settled in at home after the show - was great to get back on the road with Weeklyn Hill. Had a couple of problems with points but they were easily fixed, apart from that everything went to plan. Great show David roll on next years.
