As you know the shuttle used to run on this line and there is a point connecting it too the rest of the layout, to save money I never fitted a point motor to this, although fortunately I did drill the hole under the track. I'm not looking forward to crawling under the boards to fit a tortoise motor!

Don't envy you......have you thought about surface mounting either a Peco or DCC Concepts motor......if you switch frog polarity the other gizmo will add to the cost but save the back ache.

Super job with the farm house and yard......the Will's setts look great

Work started on the wall

I'm laying 2mm plasticard (left over from farm yard ) back to back. However because the wall is curved the outside is longer than the inner so it's being built up section by section, in situ, giving each one time to dry before doing the next

Finally finished a job I've been putting off.

When the layout was originally built, Platform 1 was to be used for one of the shuttle line with the other being the tunnel.

To keep down costs the 2 points connecting platform 1 to the rest of the layout, were never fitted with point motors and DCC decoders

With the demise of the original gas works I had 3 point motors come free plus their decoders.

The tortoise was fitted yesterday, luckily I drilled a 1/4 in hole when I laid the all the points even if a point motor wan't fitted. I carefully opened these up to 1/2 in. the make it easier to line the pin up with the point tie bar . I fitted an overlong length of new steel wire to the tortoise so I could see to line it up with the hole in the tie bar. I held it place with no nails whilst it was tested.

The other point was fitted with a seep and that went in quite easily, held in place initially with some strong tape, whilst it was adjusted.

They have both now been successfully tested with a loco

I've had enough of crawling under baseboards for a while!!

I now need to modify the computer program to add the new points and since it's a new year I'm going to a create a new computer schedule .Automating platform 3 and the goods line , rather than platform I and 2.

Richard, I like the idea of your gas works. I did consider adding one to Hintock Redux but as it would have had to be along the front-and difficult to reach over-I didn't pursue it.

Maybe another opportunity will present itself.

Meantime I look forward to seeing your progress.

John

Thanks for the comments always nice to get positive feedback.

I've got several projects on the go at the moment so progress on the gas works will be slow. However I have identified a couple of scale scenes kits which can be made in plastic for the Gas works.

I've got a new loco coming for Christmas so that is probably what you will be seeing next.

Well here's wishing you a very merry Christmas

Been trying out some scalescenes building to see if they will act as models for the Gasworks managers house and office plus gatehouse

Did a mock up of the lock keepers house out of scrap card. That certainly does the job.

However not happy with the coal office/ weighbridge. The roof doesn't match the opposite office and it is too small

So I made another copy of other office with a complete hipped roof,  and I think that does the job nicely with the entrance gate between them.

I also took the opportunity to try out the  Wills doors and windows I had left over from doing the farm house and I think they do the job as well. I will have to miss out the middle window on the top floor, but I think it looks better without it.

Just need some more plasticard and plastic brick sheets to get building in the new year!
