Barkham Green GWR OO Layout

Well I finally got around to doing the fencing, by the farm using a modified method to that suggested by KNP (Liite Muddle)

I didn't quite follow his method to the letter. Instead of using fishing line I stripped some 16/0.2 wire and used 5 of those strands, which enabled me to use a warm soldering iron, instead of superglue to attach wires, I also found afterwards that that the wires could be pulled tight, since the melted plastic didn't hold them tightly. Since the melted side was facing the track it didn't matter if I melted too much plastic occasionally!

Ratio  fence post held down on to a piece of plasticard at a spacing of 24mm using masking tape and then the wires have been attached

Left to harden overnight and then the masking tape removed

The finished result

Now need to decide what to do with the bare "Field" in front either ploughed field or cows. Need to experiment with reproducing ploughed field first.

Been pondering for some time what to do with the bare patch of land next to the farm

Then I saw this pic on the web (can't post it's copyright) and I knew what I wanted

I had ordered some fence post to do the bit along side the the railway track , but decided to use some spare GWR Ratio one's I had instead

https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/shop/lx058-72-laser-cut-4ft-wooden-fence-posts-172/?v=79cba1185463

As they were spare looking for a home, I decided to use them to divide the field  up one part for cows and the other for crops,

So far I've only got the base layer down, waiting for the post tomorrow for more scenic bits

I did the ploughed field by using an old comb with every other tooth removed

Spent a pleasant hour on Sunday afternoon catching up with Barkham Green, which I'd somehow missed before.  Very nice layout, with beautiful buildings and street scenes etc.  You're a prolific miniature architect & builder!

I use a similar method to yours to make up GWR post & wire fencing from the Ratio posts, but using 5 amp fuse wire bought on a long roll (enough for miles!).  Saves stripping layout wire or whatever.

That's what happens when grand daughter left alone, great to see the re-use of former layout buildings.

Following with interest,

Just to let you know I haven't been slacking

post-254-0-56896700-1522696372_thumb.jpg

I have had  the 2nd Poster board for a while was just missing lights to add. Well I brought a couple at Ali Pali.

So here is the second board in place, ready for the grand children coming down next week

The light is bit whiter than I would like, but it's the best I could find.

The plasticard has arrived to finish off the the Gasworks so I've spent today starting building the rest of the walls

Though Oxford Diecast do make a trailer, it doesn't actually connect to the tractors (they don't have working drawhooks).

The Oxford trailer is also a bit modern, and is like a tipping trailer. (Matchbox used to mahe a similar trailer.)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Matchbox-No-51-Trailer-Made-In-England-By-Lesney-Lot-A/401518060580?epid=652922151&hash=item5d7c576424:g:5I0AAOSwehZZ91Vf

Talking about Matchbox (Lesney) reminds me that they also made a larger trailer, with a "bogie" and tow-bar. This originally came with two yellow plastic retainers for a tall (E.G. hay..) load.

Langley may well be the beat bet for a decent farm trailer, unless you make one from pats?

weather a bit cooler today so thought I would post some pics on the little I have got done

post-254-0-03264900-1532977806_thumb.jpg

I have thought for a while that a central light wasn't good enough so I saw this offer for a spotlight bracket and couldn't resist and fitted it with 6 GU10 LED's

Fitted a gate at entrance to gasworks, not finished yet, but allows me to finish off the walls now i know the right length.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you ever tried in the first place!

Never been happy with the roof. the tiling even lifted away from the roof over the summer, and despite my attempts to glue it back down it still looked awful to my eye.

Then yesterday I discovered a couple of bits of Redutex pantiles roofing in my spares box. Even more of a miracle they were the right size!

A new building for the Gasworks

Bachmann 44-047 Hampton Hill Plate layers Hut

I saw this and realized it would fit well into the gasworks, some times not worth making a building when one already exists. Thought it was a bit posh for a plate layers hut, certainly compared to a GWR one. I shall probably repaint it to match the other buildings and with those big windows it is asking for interior detail and lighting

Well it's Warley time again and with the evenings drawing in, it's time for Barkham Green to come out of hibernation.

Finished all the buildings for the gasworks and if you look closely at the Manager's house you can see a coal fire burning in an upstairs room.

Need to get a resistor to lower the brightness of the lighting  in the mess hall. I intend to add some internal to this, since it has big windows and is close to the front of the layout.
