Unicorn1
A few more b&w shots, (and one colour one has crept in) this time of the once a week collection of the oil empties. 5660 runs over Canal Crossing with the brake van to collect the oil empties from Bishopscombe. The train arrives to collect the empties. The loco and brake van will reverse onto the tanks and haul them onto the run-round loop in the station. 5660 has run round the train, collected the barrier wagon, and re-joined the train ready to depart. Back at Bishopscombe Quarry the loading operator has bravely parked his motor bike under the 'leaning tower'! The camera can be cruel - I think some straightening up is required!
The Great Bear
Lovely photos as always, with a nice bit of operational detail (the addition of a barrier wagon). Makes me want to go an have a running session with my BLT but I need to do a lot of tidying first. Edited December 9, 2012 by The Great Bear
ginger j
my BLT You have a layout built on a Bacon Lettuce and Tomato sandwich? Serously though, cracking black and white photos-i never cease to be amazed by the field of depth that backscene gives!! Nice touch with the barrier wagon on the tanker train and must remind myself yto do the same on mine (the Kirkby West loco operater is a little lax on health and safety......) Ah, the Area Superintendent is very keen on procedure! Many a loco crew complain about the fiddleing and faffing on the Bishopscombe branch! As can been seen with this van train - lots of extra shunting required to get the un-fitted vans together at the end of the train! Similarlly this horsebox has been placed correctly, even though this down passenger service only required one coach.
Popular Post Unicorn1
One of the local farmers is taking delivery of a new bull, prompting a rare sighting of a 'beetle' at Bishopscombe. A few more detailing parts are needed for the beetle once the weathering is finished. The loco coal arrives at Bishpscombe Jnc. Shed. While the coal is unloaded the guard takes it easy.
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted December 22, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 22, 2012 There's a real sense of depth to the first photo in your last post. So realistic. Superb stuff, Les! Jeff
Unicorn1
Well, with a bit of luck this'll be the last lot of spillage I have to clear up before I get a couple of days off! Happy Christmas everyone from the 'Combe. Edited December 24, 2012 by Unicorn1
Unicorn1
Hi All Over Christmas and New Year I decided to re-model one end of Station Road in Bishopscombe. It was the earliest part of the layout to be built, and I was never really pleased with it. So some buildings weree moved, and modified / weathered. The Station forecourt was improved - and the area next to the Sation building given some hard standing. More detailing to be done, and the buildings will require fixing down, but I think it's an improvement. Apologies for the photos, I can only fit a compact camera into these small spaces! A general view of the area - some passengers and a Station Master have appeared! After years of neglect the Goods Shed has received some new doors - Swindon sent some new cream paint down for them - they still look very bright! The guttering has also been fixed - business must be good. Regards

Jules
If the goods shed has had money spent on it - the line must be due for closure! (Hopefully not - another great set of pics)
Popular Post Unicorn1
Taking a rest from re-building the end of Station Road today, I got back to some playing.......... 9736 is usually seen on branch passenger workings, but today was caught on camera shunting in Bishopscombe yard.
Popular Post Unicorn1
A few old colour slides taken at Bishopscombe have come to light, a few have been scaned and posted here. Some are a bit scratched, but they have been in a dusty drawer for the last 53 years! Actually just a bit of fun with some post processing. Western National 363 passes the Railway Inn. Unicorn1
Some more 'old' photos pf Bishopscombe have been unearthed. It seems that Bishopscombe is important enough to warrent a dedicated parcels working! A grubby GUV and a not much cleaner Hawksworth arrive behind 5766 The parcels having been unloaded from the train 5766 runs round. The pressure is on at the Brewery to get the deliveries out. Outside the Brewery. Waiting passengers at the bus stop need to get the drivers attention as soon as he can see over the brow of the hill! edited for typos Edited March 25, 2013 by Unicorn1

Unicorn1
A complete co-incidence Alan! Actually I've picked up a cheap Corgi Bristol L and want to repaint it into Western National livery - but I can't seem to get the thing to come apart! The Corgi WN Bristol K is a good little model, and one sits in Station Road most of the time! Regards, les Les I see you have the same Bristol LS as I do. gazmanjack
Once again, it is the black & white shot above of the 56xx that does it for me. Fantastic ! Cheers, Gary.
Unicorn1
Thanks for the comments and the 'likes' chaps. Bishpscombe's detailing is now more or less done, the next job is work our a proper diagram and make up a timetable to utilise the various rolling stock..I thought a 'card index' for freight needs might be a good idea, and maybe a Summer Saturday working or two - look out for 460's! Unicorn1
It's been a while since I've taken some shots of Bishopscombe so here are a few more. There is still some regular horse box traffic, and when required this is attached to the next down train. Here the branch local arrives with a Mk1 horse box in the train. The pannier runs round. Leaving the horse box in the platform the pannier shunts the suburban's into the bay. The horse box is collected from the platform by Bishopscombe's own Collett goods. Which then goes to collect a Beetle from the yard to take back up the branch with the horse box.

Andrew P
Hi Les SORRY FOR ALL THE TICKS I have just given the pics, as I was Born in Plymouth it was good to see the old bus but I left there in 1953 when I was just 3 years old so I don't actually remember them so good to see them on here. Keep the pics coming they are truly wonderful, Thanks Andy
Popular Post Unicorn1
Thanks for all the kind comments, they are always much appreciated. The challenge with the photos is the lack of light in the room. There is one florescent tube and that's it! I set the camera's white balance to 'daylight' florescent and then have to use a tripod for the long exposures, up to six or seven seconds. Each of the photos on RMweb are a 'stack' of up to seven different exposures all focused on different distances from the back to the front of the picture. These are then merged to form one 'in focus' shot. The software - CombineZM is available to download for free - and is also on the RMweb photo edit section (I think). Anyway that's the technical stuff, here's some more pictures. From the last post..........the Collett and its empty livestock vehicles amble back up the branch. A while later the weekly oil tanks come the other way. The tanks are gently shunted into the oil depot.
