RMweb Premium Welly Posted January 20, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 20, 2012 I have no desire to get a 3D printer but one of the YouTubers I subscribe to ( http://www.youtube.com/user/EEVblog who is into electronics rather than model making ) has acquired a Makerbot 3D printer kit and made a 30 odd minutes video unpacking the kit and commenting on the bits and pieces. http://youtu.be/EkFnIxgByC4 I'm not sure what he will use it for but he admitted in the comments that he was given the kit for free because his channel has quite a lot of subscribers. I expect he will video the assembly and the use of it in the near future.

RMweb Premium Welly Posted January 22, 2012 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2012 Just out of interest, here is the thread in the EEVblog forum about that particular clip. http://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=6369.
RMweb Premium Welly Posted February 22, 2012 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 22, 2012 As I expected, Dave and his mate have assembled the Makerbot and has put up a video of the whole assembly process. I worked out that it took them about 8 hours altogether to assemble the kit but the video playback is at 100 times the speed! Note that soldering of circuit boards is required for that kit. RMweb Premium Welly Posted March 12, 2012 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 12, 2012 Dave gets the Makerbot working and debugs the glitches. I was interested to note that the Makerbot works best when it is printing out smoothly but when printing out an object with several right angles the alignment on one of the planes gets all over the place. RMweb Premium Welly Posted May 7, 2012 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 7, 2012 Dave's latest MakerBot video - he has had some trouble with the Y axis alignment but solved it only to find that the first two objects he makes with it were not quite spot on dimensionally - look at the microscope adapter ( a lathe would be the best tool for that one! ) and the spool holder!
