It is not to be taken too seriously and definitely not to "flame" other posters (if any ). Well, too late to turn back now... The Best: friendly experts prepared to share their invaluable knowledge, especially on prototype matters. Timely propagation of knowledge of new releases (do you remember what it was like in the 1970s??). The Worst: threads pontificaing on the business practices of the manufacturers (I know, I don't have to read them) and huffy e-mails that "there's nothing to interest me" after new release announcements. The sensible way in which the vast majority of discussions are carried out even when people are coming from opposite view points. Worst: toilet humour ban, no News Bunny anymore and the silly ###### who are going to get an otherwise fine and light hearted thread locked within a few pages! People who get hung up on the failings of commercial products that can only be measured with a micrometer and not seen with the naked eye. Learning something new that really helps improve your modelling, gets you out of a hole, saves you a fortune.... The worst? Other people who decide that, because you're not modelling in their chosen gauge then you're wrong/crazy/nuts/barking/inferior etc. (a.k.a gauge wars - a real favourite of the Mods. I'm sure.....) Both will have wildly differing methods but both will end up with clear nasal passages. But neither will acknowledge that the other's method works just fine. woodenhead Posted January 31, 2012 Share Posted January 31, 2012 One thing I've seen on other forums that doesn't happen here is the putting down of other forums in favour of their own, there does seem to be a very anti RMWeb on some forums who revel in any downtime and bemoan the activities of the mods (usually because they came a cropper of one and didn't like it). Having a layout thread is a nice way of showing to the world what you have achieved, and seeing what everyone else has to show. Personal attacks are a distinct no-no, some of what seems acceptable elsewhere. Some great threads in the non-modelling and 1:1 scale dominion which make for facinating reading. I've learnt a lot about many actual prototypes from here. Con's - I find the mobile version a little clunky and the server problems previously experienced. The worst seems to be more subjective - I can't think of anything off hand, except that when the server has issues it does seem to take the whole shebang down. As RMweb gets even bigger, I'm wondering if some kind of redistribution of the workload will be needed. Maybe one day RMweb will be the new Google and have as many servers? aussiebrfan Posted February 1, 2012 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Goodness - Its a free service generously provided by Andy Y and the team, a fantastic array of talented modellers and knowledgable afficionados of the real thing visit here and theres no end of great photos of both models(trains) and prototype images to ogle. As my wife says "Are you looking at train porn again??' Not so good - Certain individuals who cannot accept that they may not be right all the time, when an interesting thread descends into mines bigger than yours (willy waving), people not reading the forum rules and them using the status update to have a whinge when they do the wrong thing, ungrateful people, oh and spending too much bloody time on here! St. Simon Posted February 1, 2012 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Hi, The Best thing - The great help, impression and fun you get from RMweb, it's fantastic, and that on here, you don't get discrimnated because of your age, gender, other hobbies, which I certainly do get at school, it's like on big (fairly ) happy family! The Worst thing - As well as what other people have said, but it's the people who we hear about from Andy, who don't read forum rules, get up tight if they do something wrong, then have a real go at Andy or the mods, which I don't think is right considering the amount of effort and hard they put in, I think Andy is a great bloke, good fun as well! When trying to post on an ipad or similar its hard not to make typos and even harder to correct them as it does tend to go slow. Some times I iwait to correct typos when I get ot a PC. However, thats a very small con when compared ot all the pros in terms of useful info that is posted - just look at all the usefull info including videos and photos I have had on my Banbury layout - the info from other members has been really great - far better than I ever anticipated!
