EBay madness

The chassis at the unpowered end is definitely Athearn, with the cross piece removed and plasticard added to mount that power bogie. The number 5944 and livery also matches other Athearn locos for sale.

I’ve seen this before - some sellers put the price up to something ridiculous when an item is out of stock, so (hopefully) nobody will order. Then, when the item is back in stock, the price comes back down again. It’s done to avoid having to remove the item completely and then having to create a new listing.

I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not...

No.13 is my favourite loco of all time and I'd like to have a model of it eventually in 4mm scale.

The site linked to was set up by my pal Paul for items used on my MSTS virtual Highworth Branch route built around 2001-2005 and set in 1922.

The seller clearly didn't know about it, though Googling for "GWR No.13" will get you the information needed.

Sorry for that diversion. Back to the e-Bay fun.

I appreciate this case is closed but they are different boxes - look at the styling of "HO" and the yellow lining at the left end. And the proportion of box that is cut away for the plastic window - it is greater at both ends in the sellers photo.

£149 for a battered old one or £99 for shiny new one from the manufacturer?

Ebay has notified me that this is now a "bargain" at £110!

That's not a layout!  A way of displaying your stock, maybe, but definitely NOT a layout.

It's a board with track on it, so therefore it is a layout.

Strikes me as being a good display system for a shop, 4 tracks to have things whizzing round and plenty of display tracks for locos and coaches of varying lengths.

Mike.

Seriously?

I call my oval test track of Trix track a layout, but....

The eBay item probably cost the £299 and more.

This could have come from Hornby's development team as the number ( 25 001 ) which looks original was never as far as I know issued by the factory

This is worthy of BBC's panel show "Would I Lie to You?"

Cheers,

Mick

I don't think we've had a OO layout combined with Hotwheels circuit before?  Worth all of 750 sovs?  Maybe not.....

Actually its Scaletrix but even then its not worth the asking price.

Hi Phil,

I think it is a Hotwheels slot car track - the cars are much smaller.
