It's an auction starting at £48 but if someone bids £70, the auction ends immediately, no matter how long it has to run.  If bidding doesn't reach £70, then whatever is the highest bid will win, but when the auction runs to the end of the period. Unless they've a reserve price..... but I don't think you can have that AND a Buy-it-Now price.

So, £70 is this seller's unstated, preferred reserve?

Only true until somebody bids.

Once somebody has made a bid of at least £48, the buy-it-now option disappears and it turns into a straight auction.  The final price at the end of the auction may be higher or lower than the original opportunity to buy it for £70.

It's not the same as a reserve, as it will sell for £48 if there's only one bid.

I believe different rules apply for some categories such as cars though.

If you want to buy an item with these terms and you think it's worth £70, then you're better using the BIN price while you've got the choice.  If you think nobody else is going to be interested, you could try bidding in the hope of getting it for less, but you have to be prepared to outbid anyone else who comes along or risk losing it.

[a] How can it be "inspired if it pre-dates Heljan by probably about 3 decades (correct me if im wrong)?!

[b ]Only lines I see are the brush strokes that were used by the pound shop paint brush used, and I see no Evidence of this "lining" he / she is on about ?

[c] Ill be surprised if it works

[d] Well at least he knows what the R number for the interiror is, although isnt that the model number????

[e] "by "blemish" I mean where I knocked it the other day after watching Gogglebox, sipping several pints of Whisky"

[f] Youve seriously delaued it now with that bodge job!!!

(D) Interior, this means the box interior, yellow plastic tray…no sign of the rest of the box though! ;)

(F) Exactly my thoughts, especially the lettering! :D

Some sellers at fairs wrap items in this way….note the expertly removed price label! ;)

For Cab Finial, read Cab Details….Autocorrect strikes again, or something…:scratchhead:

Under other items for sale, the same seller as the "Cellophan" wrapped coach has the following ...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284483376133?hash=item423c87d405:g:TLsAAOSwbkphYsaZ

His description says:

"Oo gauge SNCF loco in exellent mint condition the original box a little worn nice item suited to ho and oo"

[Please note - copied from him listing complete with his excellent spelling]

I really don't give a flying monkey about the state of the box (a "little" worn?! Understatement of the week!) - what does it run like?!

How old is this model, anyway? Looking at the flanges on the wheels, old would be my guess!

For some reason, my eBay account is not letting me log in - anybody want to ask him for further details about the loco? Currently a bargain - a bargain, I tell you - at the princely sum of £1.20 ... and that's with two bidders!! :laugh_mini2:

We shouldn't laugh.

No, we really shouldn't.

Oh, go on then ... :laugh_mini2::laugh_mini2::laugh_mini2::laugh_mini2::laugh_mini2:

Steve S

PS

Is it April 1st yet? Should I contact him and say that this loco is the Holy Grail of Joueff models, rare as hen's teeth, and that he should have set a reserve price of £1000+ otherwise he is giving it away? Or simply advise him that he has an exceptionally rare item, and he should either hold onto it for another 10 years to at least triple its current high value, or offer it for auction through an auction house rather than eBay?! :wink_mini:

The Jouef box a little worn…as in a large hole, or window, cut into the lid where there wasn’t one before! :D

Also, both coupling loops missing, and no photo of the Starboard side…I wonder why, 12 free photos available for every listing! :scratchhead:

Hi Stevey.

The loco dates from 1967 according to above link. I can remember them from new and as a kid was always fascinated by the ''exotic'' Jouef products. These days it's the sort of thing I would expect to pay up to a tenner for. It  would be converted to run on 3 rail Marklin MGleis, and the Grandbairns bribed to enjoy themselves playing with their barmy  Grandad's trains.

Here's a couple of bargains. One Hornby Doblo and a Hornby Duplo.

Even after all these years the spellings still make I larf a bit. However........

After seeing the asking prices my missus reckons I should be arranging some kind of 24 hour armed security on our back bedroom or selling the track and buying a modest castle in Snowdonia

Hm, I thought that nailing a bogus Edison bulb to a random piece of junk had gone out of fashion.

I need to have a look around my back yard.

Does anyone want the chance to own a desk lamp made from a rusted out Triumph Herald passenger door?

Own a unique and practical conversation piece for just £295.00!

Other cumbersome, razor sharp bits of scrap metal available to order...

My suspicious mind suspects money laundering  or paying for items other than those listed may be behind some of these outrageous offers.  You get some very funny replies when querying if the decimal point may have slipped slightly...

I like Horby Duplo, its like Hornby Dublo except you can sometimes pick Horby up for 99p instead of the Dublo's £20.

The Intercity 123

A few years ago that would have been worth it for the Tri-ang Blue Pullman coach alone.

@DCB is right; there is definitely an organised crime element to some of the extreme priced items.  I wouldn't be surprised if the serious crime squad monitor high value item sales on eBay.

A friend of mine who is an antique dealer, picked up one of those steampunk lamps as part of a job lot in auction. It cost him £20 and he asked me to have a look at it.

It was one of those modern bricks with three holes in it, to which was attached a motorcycle carburettor complete with its air filter with e bulb holder glued to the top.

The carburettor was for a prewar 250 Villiers engine. I took it off, replaced the drilled out top cover with one from my junk box and sold it on eBay for £85. A nice little earner for us both.

I think that Steve still has the brick if anyone is interested?

Oh no!  I gave away free a huge amount of Hornby-Dublo 3-rail track and points at a show a few years ago, only kept enough for my display layout of a double circuit with sidings.  Never suspected it was worth that much :D
