Mol Browsing through layouts on the Bay is an interesting excersise; you will be educmacated as to what many people think a model railway layout is and exactly how enduring the 6x4 trainset format had proven itself to be. I think it was 1965, so I'd have been 13, that I became aware that a big rectangular baseboard was not the way to go, and that layouts were better placed on what are effectively wide shelves along walls around rooms, which offered easy access to both continuous run and end to end layouts, and have been preaching this gospel ever since, apparently wasting my time... Another benefit of such browsing is that you will emerge with a much more positive view of your modelling skills! Some of the road cameos on this example are not that bad, but even so... 4

I was going to say this is actually not a bad example of a layout built for the children to play on; as 6x4s go this is probably in the top 10%. Unfortunately, though, priced at about ten times its realistic value.

Mol I think it is a very nice layout, step up from a train set, and, if you factor in the time you would save building it, i thought the starting price was reasonable. But then, i do not build layouts! (Not until i retire. I have a plan..... )

At present, all my railways are dismantled, pending a house move. The big one will be reborn as a "wide shelf" around the garage, the small one will be dismembered and its parts used for future projects. 4 hours ago, Mol_PMB said: Hard to believe this bargain hasn’t been snapped up yet: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Model-Railway-Layout-/203697748729?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 What I find hard to believe is how that narrowboat (pic 5) got to where it was... 3

It looks to me like it was made back in the 1980s or so originally and has just been dressed with modern Oxford diecast etc after a recent recommissioning. All the buildings and accessories are of the era. it even has that general retro feel. Personally, I do own an old 70's Hornby pack of a 37, 2 coaches and the automated mail carriage, which is naff, but was my first train as a child, so I assume that is the attraction with all the older, less accurate stock we see for daft prices. I mean, nobody is buying Wrenn for the quality of its moulds, are they? 1
Esmedune
This irks me. There is another advert for this loco, brand new in box for £140, yet this person is trying to get £100 for a broken one. Spares and repairs are suppose to be a bargain opportunity for people with the skills to fix it. This person assumes that this is a easy fix for someone, and so they can pay full on second hand prices, because that will be the value once it is fixed. Needless to say, I don't see this selling ;-) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144291852400?hash=item219876f070:g:1akAAOSwXoRhknse 1
MrWolf
The seller says it's in good condition and runs as it should. How exactly does it do that with one crosshead flailing around? I think that he means that the rest of it is in good condition. Also it has only covered 25 linear metres. Unfortunately, it looks like two or three of those metres were in a downward direction before hitting the ground...

Ruffnut Thorston
Now this one has been listed for ages now. Unused…..twice! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275031202007? I have tried contacting the seller, and pointing out the basic fact….that it’s not all there. And that was months ago now…. They seem to have a fixation on 1960… A lot of other dates quoted are wildly inaccurate, if not totally apocryphal! No, not even close for this one… https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274861574387?
