There is and always has been a number of people who have got to possess a certain item, no matter what the price, even if they could buy one cheaper elsewhere / it's not particularly rare / it's only the latest fad / it's an obsolete piece of junk. It's what has kept antique dealers, vintage car dealers auctioneers and art gallery owners in King of Persia style for decades. Their livelihood depends entirely on a portion of the population having far too much disposable income. (I include myself here as I make a living selling my paintings and the odd vintage motorcycle etc.) It's the way of things sadly. As John Lennon (allegedly a socialist) is purported to have said: "Whoever said money can't buy you happiness, doesn't know where to shop". Better to muster all of your energy for the next time someone says: "There's no money about you know", "The country is on it's knees", or "Money isn't everything". I suspect that for some people, getting a 'new' item long since unavailable as such is making them bid well over 'the going rate'. The irony is I suspect a number of the models may well need fettling to get going as 15-20 years non-use leads to solidified lubricant, gremlins etc. But I still find bargains quite often on ebay, you just have to be prepared to hunt them out. 2 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I find on Ebay you have to take 'new' with a pinch of salt. It usually translates to 'as new' condition where someone has opened the box carefully and hasn't damaged the flaps in the process. That particular seller is misleading with the 'new' claims along with their items being part of a 'lifetime collection' I go to the online portals of quite a few auction sites and I've noticed that quite often, that paticular ebay seller puts up three/ four individual lots exactly matching a three / four item lot moments after it closes. I've noticed in the past that some dealers give such models a quick spray of grey undercoat (applied over existing paint, etched numberplates and transfers) before trying to sell them on?
