Threshing machines were prone to catching fire - it looks as though this one did! Dry, overheated bearings surrounded by chaff are a recipe for spontaneous combustion.

Only a couple of years ago, I encountered a modern tractor on fire from the same cause. Fortunately, I carry an extinguisher in my car, and no significant damage resulted.

CJI.

When I (briefly) worked on a farm, the general rule of thumb was if it's a tractor, try and drive it to somewhere less flammable than a field full of crops and bail. If it was the combine then you get your skinny butt back to the yard as fast as humanly possible whilst screaming over the radio "Incoming, get the hoses ready!". Both happened while I was there, the combine was worth significantly more than a tractor hence the daring dash back lol

You're not wrong. My aunt's family are wheat farmers. They had a combine catch fire several years ago. The resulting fire burnt thousands of acres of land. The neighbors were not happy. The fire  made national news in the U.S. I won't give the name or location of the fire however, as it was not a happy time.

Just in case anyone  is looking for stock to run on that circle of track underneath the Christmas Tree,

here's a couple of carriages with what looks like winter weathering (and they're vintage too!)

Regards, Rich

Looks like the stock for the Brixham Friday Fish Market after it's been left on the fish dock all week :nea:

Many years ago, we had to write a mobile radio off as the fire appliance it was fitted on got caught in the crop fire the crew were trying to put out.

I recall a summer visit to the Kent & East Sussex many years ago. Somewhere, packed away, I have a photo taken from the train of a burnt-out fire engine in what had been a wheat field. Suspect the wind changed and engulfed the fire appliance?

Hornby Meccano Duplo has reared it's head again. ( I can't see anything Binns Road in this lot)

The seller, very helpfully, goes on to tell us that '' this item may, or may not, have the following faults.......''

He also tells us that he understands'' the need for a good and informed description''

Words fail me. Back to reality and the cans of Hobgoblin IPA and the Asda Firewater

(Ok I admit that I might part with a couple of quid for what looks to be bits of an old Trix overall roof station if I were at a swapmeet)

Regards, Rich.

PS forgot to add that it's vintage

Ok. It's time for humble pie. I most humbly retract all them times I called my tea chests full of Dublo 3 rail track worthless junk. The beloved Margaret caught me with an astonished look on my face, marched over to look at what had caught my attention, and is now using language I ain't heard her use in a long while. The dreaded ''Gerremsold'' word if you please!! I have only managed to restore harmony by agreeing to say that if, by any chance, the disappointed under bidders are  reading this then please feel to PM me. I'm sure I can help :)

There now, that's me out of the shed and back in the warm for the time being. I think I'll have a Guinness for a change.

Regards All. Rich

Who brought it round and gave it to my partner! Busted!

I see that Hermes delivery practices and their attitude to recipients is front page news in The Times this morning....

I've found that it's more relaxing to have controversial packages delivered to a local click'n'collect point ( where available)!  I know it doesn't prevent courier mishandling, but at least arrival is on a "need to know" footing.

It's heavy and rare. must be a bargain then. ??

PS the boss has called it a day and gone upstairs and I have permission to stay up until 3.30am so, hopefully, she won't see this

Cheers Rich.

I see he's also got one of these:

A rare LNER coach. I've also got one and it has both balconies attached. It goes with my LNER mogul "Davy Crockett"

I have one with both balconies missing, does that mean it's worth £120 rather than the £2 I paid on the car boot?
