Price seems ok but it's listed as having been test run... only it's hard to see how with the flailing connecting rod. How did they not notice when uploading the pictures.

Is it their new member of staff again?

They must have a constant stream of clueless placements doing Level 2 Retailing.

If it really is that valuable, it needs to be in a specialist auction of early models or maritime items.

Of course, they're going to take a bigger slice of the pie than eBay,

Also I suspect they'd value it a little less optimistically....

The one in the science museum is only a similar model from the same period. I doubt that they like to tell random members of the public what it's worth.

Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's worth the price of a house. I have a bicycle that was made in 1925, all original paint, nice patina, yadda yadda.

It's worth about £80.

And don't forget to add the postage :)
I'd like to see how well that travels via Herpes.....

In my experience, dumped on a doorstep, stolen by a crackhead and sold to a junk shop for £20

Probably.

Hmm - seller has been in the model railway trade since 1972 yet doesn’t know the difference between an APT and a Class 89.

Price is ok for a cracked and chipped resin body that hasn’t been cleaned up before applying an average paint job with that mysterious ‘executive brown’ colour.

Cheers

Yes very derogatory snipe at something that looks “nothing like the APT”! Lmao….

Not great by any means but if I was modelling ECML not WCML I’d be having a punt at it as I’ve not got the time to do anything better myself.  I wonder how many people sniping at it being a poor finish have even got a functioning layout of their own. I’ve said this and I’ll always repeat it; consider who made it and any physical mental or other limitations they may have.

I agree that although price is fair and slagging off workmanship is off limits (imho) it qualifies for madness on the basis of the seller gaffe though lol

So am I. I notice that the seller is a well known charity (PDSA). Usually charities are on the ball with regard to valuations. Food for thought perhaps.

It might just be a case of finger trouble when setting the price. Whoever listed it may not have noticed a few extra zeros?

A fuzee clockwork movement in a model is unusual. Sounds like a previous owner tried to motorise it using the innards of an old clock!
