EBay madness

Just wondering how a 'Code 3' model can possibly be VN MIB?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-MODEL-No-R782-ex-CR-0-4-0ST-No-67-SOUTHERN-LOCO-VN-MIB-CODE-3/302689657403?epid=1526515717&hash=item4679b5a23b:g:KU4AAMXQlUNRJTuo

Surely it's either/or but not both?

Don't even look at the asking price.....

It's been awhile since our man in Cartmel got a mention.

Likewise for Mr Studebaker..................

I haven't bothered with a couple of Cartmel's offerings of late. One gets fed up of repeating oneself....

As an example of grading I chose this fairly common item  https://www.toymart.com/Hornby-Dublo-EDL7-Tank-Loco/14913

(Lots of others are available on the site.) Cartmel's VN-MIB becomes grade A, but Code 3 (which basically translates as 'repainted') is usually valued (at best) about the same as 'good' (grade C) and depends on how well it's been done.

As regards Hornby R.782, there's a "'brand new" one here  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R782-BR-0-4-0ST-Class-0F-Smokey-Joe/152815868802?hash=item2394891b82:g:gl8AAOSwGwlaJoVM

I think this or a similar one might have been on here before but it’s still for sale at a stupid price... :banghead:

Looking at their other items I think they might be a general antique dealer though.

A junk dealer with little knowledge of our hobby!

Gosturd - a well known seller within these hallowed halls who has a collection of classic Studebaker cars to finance which he does by selling dubious old tat at extraordinary high prices, often describing RTR stuff as kit built etc in an effort to justify the extortionate price tag.

sorry to sound daft but who is selling it?

The seller is a well known E Bay purveyor of tat & general rubbish at exorbitant prices.

Stuff you or I might give away or throw in the bin.

Being old, dirty & preferably broken makes it rare & collectable.

According to this seller that is.

There are one or two others as well.

Ah i see. as you say we would chuck them in the bin or rob them for spares maybe.

Does he ever actually sell anything then?

Bizarre though how the sellers think they can ask for silly money for a junk.
