divibandit
Hi, I love this...takes me back home! Are the vehicles in your Post Office depot from the Trackside range (J2, Morris LD etc)? I have great difficulty getting red paint to look right but you've done it...how did you do it? Steve Hopefully with McC's help, the photos are in full size now! Hunslet 102
Hi Steve All the post office vehicles in the photo are from the Trackside range so have not been repainted. The shades are all the same despite being purchased at different times
Hunslet 102
Finally got round to clearing a space at GVSt to make a start on the Boyne Bridge that straddled the platforms and the building of Murray's tobacco factory which sat beside the carriage sidings. A typical GVSt 70s scene with the Hunslet Enterprise, AEC and BUT railcars, a DH on a PW train and some mixed wagons and early CIE carriages in the siding. Hunslet 102
Following on from my previous post above of clearing a space to start the Boyne bridge build, below are a couple of photos of progress to date. Still a fair bit required to complete them, but progress nonetheless. Below the bridge are a couple of the usual regulars at GVSt are a BUT and an AEC railcar, while on the bridge are an Ulsterbus Tiger and Albion

Hunslet 102
While continuing to build the Boyne bridge in situ, Murray's tobacco factory was also being built. Murray's tobacco factory was the backdrop to the old Great Victoria Street station for many years, before the station was demolished in 1976. It was also the backdrop to the new station that was built nearly 20 years after the original, until it met its own demolition in 2006. Below are a few photos of my lookalike tribute to this iconic landmark.
kirley
Excellent build Andy, it will add real depth to your Gt Victoria St. Station.
RMweb Gold Colin_McLeod Posted May 10, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 10, 2017 SUPER Andy. You have really captured the atmosphere of the Murray's backdrop building. PS I've not forgotten your platform 1 backdrop request but a house move in April means it may be a while until my photographs can escape from their packing boxes. Hunslet 102
A typical GVSt scene from the 70s,similar to post 203, this time with the Boyne bridge and Murray's tobacco factory adding to the feel of the station at the time. The AEC railcar in platform 1 is now obscured from the photo.

divibandit
This just gets better and better, Andy! I remember a friend of mine was in a campaign group outside the station in 1976, just before it closed. The campaign group was concerned with the demolition of the station building. As for the PO vans I mentioned before, I've got some myself now. Brilliant work Andy! Steve ps...as for Army vehicles, have you tried Sgts Mess? They do a range of resin vehicles, some of which would sit very nicely on your layout. Edited May 13, 2017 by divibandit

Hunslet 102
A view of the Boyne bridge from the other side looking towards the tobacco factory with the GVSt platforms and sidings below. A couple of Belfast corporation buses heading to the City Hall and the Gas Works complete the scene.
kirley
Just puts the whole scene into perspective Andy and highlights the impact the factory building has on your outlook. I take it the Corporation is going to do something about the road up to the bridge, it would be a difficult climb in the winter.

Yes but those old busses were 4x4 all terrain vehicles.

The photo actually does show the size of the tobacco factory to good effect. Work has also started on the other bridge, which has been revamped to accommodate the third line that ran from Adelaide shed to GVSt. This bridge is freelance, the nearest connection to it would have been the bridge over the Donegall Road. In this mid 1960s scene, along with the obligatory Corporation buses, CIE B class No B165 has left Grosvenor Road freight yard with a goods train for Dundalk. The end coach of an AEC railcar is heading to GVSt with a local working while an unidentified Jeep is also heading to GVSt via the third line to form the early afternoon Enterprise to Dublin. The Jeep will go as far as Dundalk, where a CIE loco will take over for the run to Dublin, the Jeep bringing the coaches from the Dublin to Belfast train back up north!
