Modern Era LU Models?

Hi all,

I appear to be in the minority generally with my desire to design and build layouts that are post-2004 and this seems to be especially the case for LU.

I'm starting to think that a few of the http://www.replicarailways.co.uk/die-cast-chassis might form a good base for a model of "newer" LU stock (I'm thinking the stuff that's just about to start running on the Central/Met lines as well as some of the Jubilee-line stock) however I'm not sure where to start with getting plans/drawings/photos to design.

If I do go ahead with this then it will be my first attempt at Scratch-Building anything - it' a big task, but I do like challenges!

Has anyone got experience of those chassis and if so, would you be willing to let me know how they run?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Are you anywhere near Romsey this weekend? The Railwayania stand will be at the exhibition there, and 'Replica Railway' is their own product brand. You would be able to see the product 'in the flesh'.

(Shameless plug) :O

Disclosure of connection - I'm a member of the host club, and I have bought many spare parts from Railwayania (though not the powered chassis yet).

Sadly I'll be nowhere near Romsey this weekend, I'm based in Wales!

I'd be interested in your opinion on the spare parts though...

The Replica chassis could be suitible for S Stock as the driving cars are 57ft long

Thanks, the S stock was exactly the model I was going for!

I've been looking at the dimensions for S stock and I think I can probably get a reasonable attempt at a model going in the next 3-6 months if I can find the budget for the parts - if my calculations are correct then the hight/width of the stock given at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/modesoftransport/londonunderground/rollingstock/21815.aspx translate to 379mm x 384mm in 1:76 (Which I believe is 00 gauge?)

I'll keep you all posted on my progress if I start this.
