60029 60074 Loughborough 14/01/20.

(Flickr link)

60029 returned to the national network yesterday in patchwork livery. It had a test run with 60074, which needed attention shortly after my previous pic of the volcanic eruption...

Note the orange cab roof...it looks very shiny and clean so may be a replacement made specially and not robbed from another 60. Either that or orange was the only primer colour they had to hand?

Will it be blue or (a version of) grey?

Jack.

I think some of the other "super 60" overhauls had new cab domes. IIRC, it's a glassfibre mouding.

Pity the red 60 with it wasn't 60024 - It now carries the name "Clitheroe Castle" that used to adorn 60029.................

Cheers,

I saw that at Toton the other night when I arrived to work 6Y77, it stopped me in my tracks to see one so clean and tidy looking.

The link takes you to, a Pacer unit?

It appears that way but there's a pic of the 60 on a low loader if you open the post fully.

A couple more from me, of all 3 DC Rail 60s in Derbyshire over the last month or so...

Also it would seem 60029 is closer to a main line return proper as it is now in the Toton Paint Facility.

Great to see a 60 on the bio-mass rather than the usual 66, i have'nt seen a 60 in the flesh for years, but whats the chance it'll be back to a 66 today if i go out to try see a 60?:lol: Is there any way of knowing what's going to be on it before bothering to turn out? :pardon:

I might as well stick a few pics' on whilst i'm here.:)

I wonder if a empty shell could be used for a model layout in the back garden? Never mind the local authorities, our lass would kill me.

a guy did that with a 101 power car placed next to his house on the main road between Chester and crewe in the mid 2000s, he ended up having to move it as it was ‘a distraction to motorists’

There are currently 3 of GBRf's class 60s available on the Liverpool-Drax biomass circuit - 60021/085/096, Owd Bob.

Of the daytime workings - loaded 6E09 & 6E10 and empty 6M09 & 6M36 - none have run today.

Your best bet is just to check Realtime Trains each morning to see what's been activated.

In my experience these tend to be manually activated several hours in advance, rather than automatically activated by the system, but that's not always a guarantee.

And remember too that RTT now shows which GBRf locomotive has been allocated once the working has been fully set up on TOPS (that's not the same as being 'activated' on the system though).

Bear in mind though that what actually pulls it might differ from reality.  By way of example, here is the RTT entry for my photo of 6E09 on the 2nd March 2020.  Spot the difference.

66774 certainly wasn't there when it passed me at Brighouse.  It might have been there at the start to assist with the move out of Liverpool Biomass Terminal.  Or rarely in this case, to assist up Miles Platting bank, as unusually for a daytime loaded biomass this working went via Manchester Victoria.  The working did subsequently sit in a loop at Castleton for a couple of hours.

A couple of recent shots and videos from me, the first at Stenson with 60091 letting off a bit of clag on the tanks:

Black Stuff

Then 60055, which was running as 1Z99 from Toton to relieve 60028 which had failed on 6X20 to Carlisle from Derby. 60028 then ran light to Toton, and sounded fine to me! Reports are it's now back in circulation.

And videos:

Thanks,

Jack.
