Freshly repainted into the current GBRf livery, 60087 heads west at Colne Bridge on 18th July 2021 with 6M51, 12.03 Doncaster Down Decoy Yard to Liverpool Biomass Terminal.

Every time I've been out over the past few days to photograph other freight along the Calder Valley, GBRf 60087 has also put in an appearance.

For the third time, and I might deliberately avoid it now, here it is, this time on 22nd July 2021 working 6E09, 07.38 Liverpool Biomass Terminal to Drax Power Station, loaded biomass hoppers.

With some lines around Manchester currently closed due to engineering work, the majority of booked daytime freight crossing the Pennines that would normally use the Calder Valley route has been diverted via the Huddersfield line.

On 31st July 2021 GBRf 60087 (it's still following me around!) approaching Deighton with 6E10, Liverpool Biomass Terminal to Drax Power Station, loaded biomass hoppers.

On 2nd August 2021 GBRf 60096 leads 60002 at Deighton with 6M36, 09.30 Drax Power Station to Liverpool Biomass Terminal, empty biomass hoppers.  Details on Realtime Trains suggests that 60096 was added at Sudforth Lane.

Why don’t they offer them all up for sale rather than letting them sit and rot away?

Why help the competition that is taking all your contracts by supplying well designed locomotives with grandfather rights that can be up and running for the fraction of the price of a new build?

Only the vagaries of rail privatisation has seen them put up for same and not just scrapped. I new one of the legal team who was involved in the break up of the freight sector and there were legal issues on overall ownership and disposal of the 60's and 92's (and others). Do not ask, I never understood a word of his legalese explanations .

It is a long time ago but when Big Ed bought the 66's for EWS, my wife who is in the oil industry, told me how the 56's and 60's were preferred power for loaded oil trains from Humberside due to the fire extinguishing system which was far superior to the 66's in their risk assessment at the time. Probably all changed now but it may explain how some  the 60's have survived.

Today, there’s a picture on wnxx.com of 60060 being positioned from the compound at Toton for further road transportation.  It seems to be missing a roof panel but I was wondering if anyone knows where it’s heading?

Move was mooted for today and I’ve heard Leicester for further storage. Believe it’s owned by DCR.

DB's 60044 heads south on the last leg of its journey to Kingsbury from Lindsey (Immingham) yesterday…

DB 60044 - 6M57, Stenson

It appears someone at Toton has taken to painting the buffer edges on the 60s silver…a nice touch!

Anyone got any ideas about what DCR’s plan is for 60060 now that it’s at Leicester?   As it’s missing a roof panel, has it been bought for spares by stripping out of anything useful or do they plan to refurbish it.  It would be great if Europhoenix have a plan in restoring it to full working order and painted in their stunning livery.

AFAIK it’s spares only, but could feasibly be returned to service, although that would take many £k or even £M.

I think the move to Leicester is in connection with more DCR 60 maintenance happening there, thus spares donation needed there, although I could be wrong…

... I haven't yet seen a complete rake of rebranded IIA-D wagons comprising the consist of a single biomass train, but the rebranded wagons make up the the vast majority now in any rake, with the old branding becoming a rarity...
