The Fall & Rise of the 60's ( was The End of the Tugs?)

Something new of interest in the North West.  GBRF 60095 6F67 Tuebrook Sidings to Hanson Ashton In Makerfield. This stone flow originates from Hanson Shapbeck quarry in Cumbria and there are two trips from Tuebrook sidings in Liverpool to Hanson Ashton In Makerfield.  This train is currently running Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  It has been some years since the Haydock Branch has seen any freight trains.  These are various photos of the train on the Haydock Branch line.

In the late afternoon gloom at Brighouse on 6th November 2018, GBRf 60085 leads 66770 and a solitary JNA wagon with 6Z10, 11.40 Tuebrook Sidings to Doncaster Roberts Road.

Either the 66 or the JNA, or possibly both, would benefit from a visit to the wheel lathe judging by the sound as they passed by.

The GBRf (ex Colas) 60s are regular performers on the Port of Tyne - Lynemouth PS biomass trains.

I see them almost everyday.

Interesting I’ll have to keep an eye open next time I’m in the area :) Edited by Br60066

... and it duly turned up.

GBRf 60026 (with Jupiter nameplate) hired in by Colas passes through the drizzle at Brighouse with 6E32, 08.55 Colas Ribble Rail to Lindsey Oil Refinery.

I believe terms of the sale is their refurbished and able to be put back into traffic. I think DBC are very sensitive about them going for scrap regardless of condition.

Interesting it (60 095) has gone over to Doncaster after a month or so on the Tuebrook-Shap-Haydock stone trains, which haven’t run this week. I wonder if it is coming back or will we get a different loco this week if the train runs.

Edit: ah, looks like it is coming back this afternoon...post-583-0-56302900-1543743388_thumb.jpeg

I see DBC are making eight more class 60’s available for sale, - 60008 60028 60029 60046 60055 60064 60070 & 60098,60070 looking in a very sorry state at Toton.I so hope someone buys at least some of them.

Hopefully it's a costing excercise and DB put them back into traffic themselves!

Possibly, although I reckon their value in terms of ability is on the up as trains get longer, heavier etc, and 66s sometimes can't cope. Maybe another company (GBRf spring to mind) would want them and be willing to put them through overhaul? Then again imagine a Freightliner or Europhoenix 'Tug'...or a triple grey sector one working for a tour operator (LSL/Saphos??)...I’ll stop now....

DB's fleet are still hard at it...I saw two yesterday at Stenson Jn and Barrow on Trent in Derbyshire...

60091 on 6M57/0717 Lindsey to Kingsbury:

60019 on 6E54/1040 Kingsbury to Humber OR:

And the videos...they still sound well...

Colas hired in a DB Cargo class 60 again on 6th December for 6M32/6E32 Lindsey Oil Refinery-Preston Docks bitumen tanks.

60059 'Swinden Dalesman' eases away from a signal check on the approach to Heaton Lodge East Junction.
