Ian Smith
Modbury was at the Warley exhibition at the NEC at the weekend. Unfortunately I didn't take many photos, but I did capture a bit of video while I was manning the Newton Abbot end fiddle yard and Chairman Jim Allwood was operating. The video captures an out-of-period BR liveried 2251 class (courtesy of John Russell) shunting a pair of cattle wagons from an up (Newton Abbot bound) pick-up goods into the cattle dock. I clearly took the video from the upper branches of a nearby tree in gusty weather as it's a little shaky at times

I assume the foreground lines and sidings are one gauge with the running lines in rear the other, but which is which? Sorry very late to the party here. I don’t know if any of the Huddersfield lads are members of the forum. I was heavily involved in the early stages of the Millsbridge layout (before it was even named!) it’s been on the go for getting on for twenty years now. I left the project (and modelling) about ten years ago now. The layout is mixed 2mm and N Gauge, the inner two tracks being N gauge have no turnouts on the front, so the difference is less obvious. I always felt it looked a bit like the difference between flat bottomed and Bullhead rail. The finescale side is PCB sleepers with the new ( at the time!) bull head Code 40. I reckon the Viaduct was probably one of the first uses of Laser Cutting in modelling, I drew it up and got it cut via contact from work. It was certainly an ambitious project and actually our second attempt, we had a false start in about 1982 if I recall, that version lasted about ten years and was never complet. The Coal drops and some other parts, including the single slip and double slip were rescued from it and used on the current one. The guys in the club have just about completed now, four of the five original instigators are still involved....... just me who cried off part way through. Ian Mitchell. D869
Not so much 'Out and About' but since both #TwitterModelTrainShow and 'The Great Virtual Model Railway Show 2020' on Facebook are now almost over, here is a YouTube playlist of the four videos of my South Yard micro layout that I made for the two virtual exhibitions that were set up to lighten the mood during the current virus measures. I found both shows an interesting experience. Both attracted contributions from non-UK exhibitors and were able to showcase non-portable layouts like garden and loft layouts. I'm still struggling to find the show guide though. 15

2mm Andy
It's been a while since any "real" exhibitions were able to take place, but I recently found a few photographs from the 2019 Warley exhibition of Ian Smith's 'Modbury' and thought I'd post them here. I hope Ian doesn't mind - they were take during "silly hour" towards the end of the Saturday when some less than authentic stock was given a chance to stretch it's legs. Both items of stock belong to Jim Allwood, who was operating one of the fiddle yards at the time. Andy Edited January 17, 2021 by 2mm Andy

RMweb Premium Ian Morgan Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9, 2021 I have to pause my scenic work on the layout in order to put together a video for the Risborough & District Virtual Exhibition on 29th May 2021. RMweb Premium Ian Morgan Posted September 4, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 4, 2021 Today was an 'Open Day' for Basingstoke MRS at the clubrooms and the adjacent Scout HQ hall. Several club layouts on show, and an excellent opportunity to try out Freshwater before TINGS next weekend. It has been a long, long time since it went anywhere. First problem was remembering how it all fitted in my car. I was expecting trouble from track that had not been cleaned for 18 months, and all the new rolling stock with untried couplings and back-to-back. However, the layout ran very well. Still more track cleaning needed, and one of the Terriers has picked up some grit in the gears, but hopefully things are looking good for next weekend. A little taster of something new to see on the layout:
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted September 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 4, 2021 (edited) Here are a few from the Newhaven & District MRC shows, the now defunct Brighton Modelex and one of the N gauge layout in the Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway. I am fairly sure I haven't uploaded them here before. Although I didn't note it on some of them at the time I think that they are all 2mm. Popular Post JohnBS
Hi everyone, A rare thing these days - Pictures at an Exhibition - (no, not Mussorgsky's). Below a few photos of Ashburton at the WAMRC Frome show today. The show was at the Cheese and Grain venue in Frome and, despite the weather on Saturday, was well attended. I dare say that people were desperate to find something to do! John cleaning tracks before the show. Jerry and John with the "Best in Show" trophy. So nice to get out and about again. Graham R
The Far North roadshow was the only 2mm Finescale presence at Model Rail Scotland this year: Jim Watt has some of his recent Caledonian models to show off and we saw quite a few old friends, including several from the North East area group. It's nice to be back at a show. Graham R
Also of interest at Model Rail Scotland was Nigel Cliffe's remote-control motorised bus (the bodyshell is a Leyland Atlantean I believe, from Graham Eason's Vintage Miniature Models range), which made an appearance on the 2mmSA stand but which I omitted to photograph. However a visitor to the show has very helpfully included it on his Youtube video record, starting here. (You may need to sit through a few seconds of cat food advertisment or similar, but don't despair). I will leave Nigel himself to explain why he went undercover for this demo (wearing his Scalefour East of Scotland group disguise and demo'ing the bus on the NGS stand). RMweb Premium Ian Morgan Posted March 31, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2022 Ally Pally has come and gone, so I can show a couple of the newly completed bits of scenery. Not much of it, but it does mark the completion of the goods yard area. Note, I did a bit more work on the greenery since the photos were taken.
