Pixie
Hi All, Thought I'd start a central place for people to upload photos and images of 2mm layouts when they're out and about at exhibitions .All are welcome to contribute on layouts old and new. To get the ball rollings, here's a few off me' phone. Highclere at Abrail 2012 Pannier trundles along with a loaded train of minerals. Quiet moment in the goods yard. The transition between layout and backscene really is seamless! Andy Hanson's 24 rumbles around the new fiddle yard with a long unfitted freight working... ...and later returning with another mineral train. A variation on one of the above to try and get a bit arty. And finally, a little video! There's a little method to the madness of the banking loco here as all the wagons beyond the two fitted 16t minerals didn't have any couplings. So a little skill and co-operation was used to keep the 24 pushing the rear vehicles to keep them them buffered up to the coupled vehicles in front - too slow and there will be a huge gap, too much speed it'll derail the lot. Good fun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sFZapWF5ak Many thanks to Missy for letting us play - it's going to be quite a layout! Cheers, PIx
-missy-
Hello Pixie. What a great idea for a thread, lets just hope more people post pictures in the future. Thanks so much for the pictures and video of Highclere too, it was a great day and lets hope we can do it again sometime soon... Missy
richbrummitt
My opinion: it's better in colour I agree on the backscene too. The scene extends right to the horizon in those photographs - even though I know where the join is. Edited March 7, 2012 by richbrummitt
Pixie
What a great idea for a thread, lets just hope more people post pictures in the thread. That nice Mr Kempenfelt has a few from RailEx, 2mm show and a few others... Eh Paul? *hint*hint* Pix
2mm Andy
Nice photos Pixie - they came out far better than the ones I took. You really do need to fit couplings to those wagons!! Andy PS> Minor point, but I think it was Steve Bedding's (Smokey Bacon) Class 24 - mine didn't make it out of the box 'cos someone forgot to fit a chip to it.... Gingerbread
I am surprised there is nothing from Nottingham last weekend - had the 2mm RWwebbers forgotten their cameras? Here is my modest contribution from the London Festival of Railway Modelling this weekend, photos taken during a brief break from the 2mm Roadshow. RMweb Gold queensquare Posted April 18, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 18, 2012 I have at long last got around to sorting the snaps I took at Nottingham - Fence Houses and St Ruth. I must admit I have a real soft spot for St Ruth (Penzance), all those western region hydraulics take me right back to my youth Jerry
RMweb Gold bcnPete Posted April 18, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 18, 2012 Great pics Jerry - Thanks for posting especially as I really wanted to try and make that exhibition. Fencehouses is awesome and has changed a lot since I saw it at the GJ expo and indeed St Ruth is looking mighty fine too...love that shot of Andy's 22 along the seawall. -missy-
Done! BTW Thank you for the photos Jerry. It's a shame I missed all the fun... M Edited April 18, 2012 by -missy-

D869
Thanks Jerry and Nigel for the pics from Nottingham. The pic of the 22 shunting the sleepers is a particular favourite. We must get round to putting the Pirates Hotel into that gap though - even though it will probably just be a 'flat' on the backscene. The 22 wound up doing a lot of work as the station pilot for the whole weekend because more than one Farish 08 proved reluctant to play nicely. We have since provided more volts on the input side of the controllers so we are hoping that the performance of some of the more err... 'classic' mechanisms will be better next time. I'll post a link on the blog for the benefit of those who don't follow the 2mm forum. Regards, Andy
RMweb Gold 2mmMark Posted April 26, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2012 Somewhat of a blast from the past, here's Chapel Wharf at Railwells in 2004. A little bit grainy as I was working without flash in available light.
James
I wonder if this thread should be pinned - there's a lot of high quality modelling in the 2mmFS world!
Popular Post Graham R
Here are a few snaps of 2mmFS layouts at the recent Expo at Bournmoor (the North East Area Group's 30th anniversary) ... and at Perth MRC's show the following day. First of all Ian Noble's "Banff" at Perth, written up in July's RM: Ian's technique for representing the rocky foreshore - foamboard with the facings split off, then layered and distressed with a scalpel - looked really good. The photos don't really do it justice. The rest of the photos were taken at Bournmoor: Working Stevens flap ground signals by Jim Watt, the Caledonian Railway version of course, from his own "Buchanan Kits" stable: Here's the real thing (at Errol station in 1981) for comparison. Jim's etch has flaps suitable for the NBR, LSWR and GNSR variants as well as the squarer Caley flap. It looks like he's thoughtfully added a razor blade to the etch, perhaps so you can slit your wrists if the frustration in building it gets too much. I can't remember if the model was sitting on a lump of 4mm or 6mm plywood, but you get the idea. It's small ! No RSU was harmed in soldering it up... Jim said he used a conventional soldering iron, but I can't help thinking the tip would be almost as big as the signal. He also had a model of a 50-foot Cowans Sheldon turntable deck, again from his own etch. Jim said this was more of a "scratch-aid" kit than a finished design, but it looked pretty good to me. Once Jim's "Kirkallanmuir" is ready for showing, it will clearly be a show-stopper. Maybe there will be free magnifing glasses at the ticket desk. John Whitehead's Tiviotdale: I didn't manage to capture its flowing trackwork, but you can get an impression of the urban architecture: David Long's Mayfield Street, written up in the April/May 2012 2mm Magazine: The compact sector plate: The colours of the model don't look as tortured as in this photo. The layout has a very effective proscenium with concealed fluorescent tubes, and maybe these had a different balance from those on other layouts. I should have taken the time to fix the white balance on the camera or tweaked the shot ... sorry David ! Rod McCall's "Coal Road" at an early stage of development was backed up by several albums of prototype research: The train was positioned just for visual effect: I don't think it's had its wheels finescaled yet. The sector plate pivots just out of shot to the left. Regarding the woodwork I think Rod mentioned this baseboard had been recycled from a previous model: he used a plywood-skin design before but has found open timber beams work better for this layout. Tony Simms' Brafferton: The demo table was busy: and finally, the "elephant in the room" ... Fence Houses, which had an almost continuous stream of passing trains, everything from modern traction to pre-group, and which people went back to view again and again. My personal favourite was a Black Five (I assume Bob Jones' own build of the kit he desigend for the 2mmSA) which ran so steadily and smoothly, at a variety of speeds, it was hard to believe it was a scale model. Spell-binding. Unfortunately it is very hard to take sharp photos of moving trains with a basic camera by available light - rather as it was in the early years of prototype photograph! - so all my shots are trainless. The model is just stunning. I know there are plenty photos earlier in this thread, but I hope no apology's needed for adding more, since it has developed fast. Starting at the left-hand end of the viewing side of the layout, Black Boy bridge: Progressing towards the exchange sidings, Morton Wood forms the background: Coming up to the level crossing, a couple of coal hoppers are being unloaded: The station and level crossing area: Progressing past Lambton Lane towards Lambton "D" pit, several views of a McKenzie & Holland signal gantry: Passing under the A183, we come to Wapping Bridge signalbox: There are signs of recent a lineside fire: Another bridge with a glimpse of a British Road Services lorry: and finally Penshaw North signalbox and junction. (The spectacular Victoria Viaduct part of the layout was not accessible - the hall wasn't quite long enough for public viewing round the end of the layout!) The Expo also had 'trade' stands from Nick Tilston, Graham Eason and Allan Doherty, and Geoff Jones had a wide-ranging display of trackbuilding tools and techniques. And then of course there was lunch, and towards 4pm, the cakes.... Thanks Mick !

RMweb Gold queensquare Posted July 20, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 20, 2012 (edited) Its that time of year again and it looks as though the weather is going to improve just in time for Camrail this weekend. This years 2mm offering amongst the regular mix of high quality eclectic exhibits is John Greenwoods beautiful Wenfordbridge complete with working road vehicles, gantry crane and of course the full set of Beattie Well tanks. Come and say hello if you can make it to Bradford on Avon this weekend - just a pleasant two minute walk along the river from the station. Details can be found here http://www.titfield....il/Camindex.htm I know this is a photo thread so I will add some photos after the weekend - promise! RMweb Gold queensquare Posted July 24, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2012 Here, as promised, are some pics of Wenfordbridge from Camrail this weekend which hopefully will make up for my blatently plugging the exhibition on this thread - sorry Julia!! I will start a new thread 'Up and coming exhibitions featuring 2FS layouts'. John Greenwood is chatting to Nick Smith (the hairy one!) of Finney and Smith. John Birkett-Smith is at the controls. Pyewipe Jct
one of my favourite shots for atmosphere taken at Ponte this year 'Wansbeck Road', unless I'm much mistaken - definitely one of my favourite 2mm layouts. Kevin
richbrummitt
Same time same place Typical North Eastern weather, a dark cloud looms as it looks as though it's about to thunder in that last photo, best get indoors quick! That first photo is great for atmosphere, as you say, and not a train in sight. Edited July 25, 2012 by richbrummitt
