There are a few more on my Flickr site, but I must admit, model railway photography is not my forte... :(

Here is my Farish pannier with new chassis, alongside a scratchbuilt pannier

Is the size difference due to the 'N scale' body compared with real 2mm or some trick of the camera? I suspect it might be a little of the latter and a lot of the former.

The Farish pannier is untouched, and I leave it to others to say how to scale it is for N or 2mm. Camera was on its 28mm equivalent setting.

Having posted that picture of Burnham, I spotted in the 2mm Magazine that it can be seen this year at Burnham and Weymouth.

Tim,

Just done a quick measurement of a Farish Pannier body. At 1:148 it seems to be pretty accurate. 0.5mm over-length over buffer planks, exactly correct from bottom of footplate to top of cab and also across the width of the pannier tanks. Poole got something right! Agreed that it is unusual for the difference between 1:148 and 1:152 to be quite so obvious. Is the other 57xx one of John Greenwood's?

David

Edit: Should have added that I measured one with the later style of cab.

Evening David, I can confirm that it is indeed one of John's. I can also confirm that Tim's pannier ran beautifully (I was driving) and will only get better with running in. The size difference between the two was a lot less noticable in the flesh and I would suggest a lot of the apparent difference is down to the angle of the photo.

A few pics from the AGM yesterday. Sorry I didn't get a pic of each layout - I never have quite got out of the frugal habits learned when using film in the camera.post-9623-0-03498700-1349649982_thumb.jpg

I'm sure there's a layout down there somewhere.

D6309 visits north Somerset - nothing wrong with that.

Umm... not quite so sure about class 41s in this part of the world.

Spent an enjoyable day talking to people at the Farnham show with a cut down association and Hall Quay, the late Alan Lawrence's layout. After spending a good deal of time getting the wheels, shoes and overheads clean the trams ran sweetly and I got a few pictures for your perusal. It certainly generated quite a bit of interest and some sustained conversation. Enjoy!

With the trams running and the aperture open the shutter was caused to dwell, and the motion blurs. Rather than scrap them outright I changed them to sepia and I think that it gains something?

If someone should feel inclined to sort the shadows in the edges of the back-scene out in photoshop and re-post I think they'd look better still. I'm not much good at image manipulation.

A wonderful little layout from a lovely gent. I only knew Alan in the last few years of his life, but I'll always remember him fondly.

And one of James operating Fencehouses at Manchester 2012 (yes he needs a stool, but so do most other operators on Fencehouses):

Brafferton will next be out at St Albans 2013. Come along and see us if you can!

I'm sorry it's taken me so long after the Manchester show (family medical problems!) but finally, here is Fencehouses!

The MRJ shot! (Only in that it's a similar viewpoint!).

Beautiful countryside.

Plenty more if you want them! The absence of trains is due to me doing my photo thing early on Sunday morning.

Cheers,

John E.

Finally not best shot but in the 'mad' hour

Typically, that fancy new diseasel motive power needed banking!!

In reality, Bodmin was there to stop the pullman coaches rolling down the bank whilst I took some pictures as I hadn't bothered to couple it up. The Pullman is a stunning model - I ran it up and down the front and it was beautifully smooth and near silent. I will put some more pictures of it in the Highbury thread when I get a chance.

The other guest locos, the Sentinel and Peckett are Mark Fielder's who kindly brought them along for the day. Both performed faultlessly, the Sentinel in particular reminding me that I must get mine finished - about ten years after I started it!

A good day out was had by all with thanks to the Wycrail team for being such excellent hosts in a fabulous new venue.

Yes indeed, Wycrail was a very good exhibition and it was a pleasure to have a chance to help out on Jerry's layout. Operating from the front is an interesting experience. Incidentally, a description of the Peckett's construction is featured here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/63281-guinness-saddle-tank-almost/

There was a real Father Ted moment when 2mm, 4mm and 7mm Sentinels met. "These are small, the ones outside are far away..."

Over the weekend of 3rd/4th November I exhibited 'Mayfield Street' at the East London Finescale Exhibition and, on the Saturday, I had the pleasure of a visit from David Mallott (aka 'Kylestrome') who was over in London for a few days from Germany. He took a few snaps of the layout which he has kindly allowed me to share here.

The first one is of D5034, one of the first Class 24s to be painted blue, sitting by the S&T bank with a couple of Stephen Harris sixteen tonners. D5034 is a repaint and weathering job by Mercig Studios.

The remainder feature the latest loco for the layout. I built D4109 from a 2mm Association kit and it was recently painted and weathered by Mercig Studios; another fine job from Ian Clenton. A couple of jobs remain to be done to add the lighting and conduits, radiator fillers and sandpipes. It is still being run in but I am quite pleased with how it has turned out. So pleased in fact that I have recently acquired a further kit from another Association member. Still time in this decade to get it built :scratchhead:

All in all a very enjoyable weekend and a show that I would recommend to members.

D4109 looks beautifully (?) faded.

Considering the original cost of the kit and adding in the CT chip and the many hours putting it together the last thing that you want to inflict on it is an inferior paint job. I'm more than happy to work on my wagon collection but for locos Ian's understated finishing is just perfect to my eyes. That faded green is one of his best yet and is a very good match to the guide photo that I provided him with.
