At 1:148 it seems to be pretty accurate. 0.5mm over-length over buffer planks, exactly correct from bottom of footplate to top of cab and also across the width of the pannier tanks. Poole got something right! Agreed that it is unusual for the difference between 1:148 and 1:152 to be quite so obvious. Is the other 57xx one of John Greenwood's? I can also confirm that Tim's pannier ran beautifully (I was driving) and will only get better with running in. The size difference between the two was a lot less noticable in the flesh and I would suggest a lot of the apparent difference is down to the angle of the photo. Sorry I didn't get a pic of each layout - I never have quite got out of the frugal habits learned when using film in the camera. I'm sure there's a layout down there somewhere. Tucking (and Fulling) Mill (careful now) D6309 visits north Somerset - nothing wrong with that. richbrummitt Posted October 14, 2012 Share Posted October 14, 2012 Spent an enjoyable day talking to people at the Farnham show with a cut down association and Hall Quay, the late Alan Lawrence's layout. After spending a good deal of time getting the wheels, shoes and overheads clean the trams ran sweetly and I got a few pictures for your perusal. It certainly generated quite a bit of interest and some sustained conversation. Enjoy! With the trams running and the aperture open the shutter was caused to dwell, and the motion blurs. Rather than scrap them outright I changed them to sepia and I think that it gains something? If someone should feel inclined to sort the shadows in the edges of the back-scene out in photoshop and re-post I think they'd look better still. In reality, Bodmin was there to stop the pullman coaches rolling down the bank whilst I took some pictures as I hadn't bothered to couple it up. The Pullman is a stunning model - I ran it up and down the front and it was beautifully smooth and near silent. I will put some more pictures of it in the Highbury thread when I get a chance. The other guest locos, the Sentinel and Peckett are Mark Fielder's who kindly brought them along for the day. Both performed faultlessly, the Sentinel in particular reminding me that I must get mine finished - about ten years after I started it! Operating from the front is an interesting experience. RMweb Premium DavidLong Posted November 12, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 12, 2012 (edited) Over the weekend of 3rd/4th November I exhibited 'Mayfield Street' at the East London Finescale Exhibition and, on the Saturday, I had the pleasure of a visit from David Mallott (aka 'Kylestrome') who was over in London for a few days from Germany. He took a few snaps of the layout which he has kindly allowed me to share here. The first one is of D5034, one of the first Class 24s to be painted blue, sitting by the S&T bank with a couple of Stephen Harris sixteen tonners. D5034 is a repaint and weathering job by Mercig Studios. The remainder feature the latest loco for the layout. I built D4109 from a 2mm Association kit and it was recently painted and weathered by Mercig Studios; another fine job from Ian Clenton. A couple of jobs remain to be done to add the lighting and conduits, radiator fillers and sandpipes. It is still being run in but I am quite pleased with how it has turned out. So pleased in fact that I have recently acquired a further kit from another Association member. Still time in this decade to get it built All in all a very enjoyable weekend and a show that I would recommend to members. Considering the original cost of the kit and adding in the CT chip and the many hours putting it together the last thing that you want to inflict on it is an inferior paint job. I'm more than happy to work on my wagon collection but for locos Ian's understated finishing is just perfect to my eyes.
