More RSC3.

977997 is an ex Gatwick Express Mk2 and needs cutouts in one end. Two cuts with a hacksaw, backed with 10thou styrene. I also added the extra electrical connectors using scraps of styrene.

Hoping to get better pics of RSC3 when Blackmill goes to Railex NE next weekend. In the meantime, three longterm projects are nearing completion.

975025 Caroline - the interior detail is built, I just need a few orange clad personnel to be seated. Pretty ceratin this will debut at Railex NE

950001 TRU - primed about an hour ago - PHD conversion of a Bachmann 150.

999508 TIC - Britannia Models kit with a Bachmann chassis, also primed.

Whether I get the TRU and TIC ready for Railex depends on non-modelling distractions........... otherwise, they should be ready for the Blackburn show on the following weekend.

Mick

They've already had an undercoat of Halfords Signal yellow and top coat of NR yellow. (Drying as I type)

Which one did you use for the one in the picture Mick, DC or Britannia?

Hi Pete, I think they're the same kit. I bought it from Charlie and it has DC Kits bits, but I think the resin castings are by Britannia. Dunno where the box is now - I'll check the instructions when I get home later.

Unlikely to have 950001/999508 at Railex NE this weekend, but looking VERY hopeful for Blackburn the week after. Caroline will be making her public debut at Railex - I can't decide whether to use 37423 or 47501 for power............

Mick

The instructions say it's by "Britannia Pacific Models, in association with DC Kits".

Caroline looking excellent Mick, well done. Looking forward to seeing it soon I hope. Its on my to-do list along with Mentor. ;)

The RHTT also looks the business. Is there a definitive article anywhere on how to build this? I have seen various bits and pieces based on the SKits tanks which appear to be discontinued as far as I can make out.

Never seen any details at all on the generator.

Cheers

Pete

Pete,

The Genny Should be a Water Jetting module is from SJR Models ( http://www.sjrmodels.com/ ). It is Item MD02, Watter Jetting Module ( £15.00 ) in the MPV section.

Thanks Pete. I've not detailed my own build of the S-kits FEA's and tanks as they're reasonably documented elsewhere (I think on DEMU and there may be an item on RMWeb somewhere). Mike's correct in the SJR jetting module - I've added the footsteps to it with plasticard.

Caroline and the rhtt look brilliant Mick if only I was any good at kit bashing etc. One small question though is what lights did you use in the drs 37 that was hauling Caroline (the wipac light cluster)

Hi Rob,

It's a mix of Shawplan etches for the Wipac lights and styrene for the upper marker. Detailed here

Mick

Whilst, I'll still be carrying on with current projects (950001 and 999508 are nearly there), I thought it about time to detail my 2009 build of the Structure Gauging Train (pre-2009 formation). I think the formation I've modelled dates from about 2005 onwards.

post-408-0-21653300-1347300672_thumb.jpg

The consist in the picture is 31233, 977985, 460000, 975081, 975280 and 31105.

It has since been reformed with RTOV (ex-DBSO) 9708 replacing 977985 and a brake for runner (usually 99666) added into the train, whilst only being powered by one class 31.

Some of you will have already seen the article for the DEMU magazine Update and DEMU forum thread, so you can skip ahead to the non-SGT stuff!

The "heart" of the train is the optical gauging wagon, that was built on the chassis of the prototype SAA steel carrier 460000, although the chassis is heavily modified for it's new role.

post-408-0-41885000-1347300937_thumb.jpg

The prototype used (although not now) a white light system to measure the distance between the track and fixed structures such as bridges and tunnels. Due to the nature of the measuring system, it is only effective at night and as such, the SGT tends to venture out in the dark and during the winter, when it can make effective use of the longer nights.

p.s. I'm sort of hoping that by writing this, it may spur me on to do another up-to-date SGT..........!

ah the good old SGT! i my self have never been that mad to go see it at 2am when passing but i am going to try and model it useing a VDA van and the way of useing a half bit of pipe to form the top of the center as seen on another post ;-)

I've never been to see it beyond 10pm! I was lucky in that most of my pics have come direct from a former driver of the test trains.

Forget the VDA - the underframe is way off with it's fishbelly shape. A VAA/VBA is a better bet as it's a shallower chassis.

First two pics show the chassis stripped and the van chopped to form the main end units.

All detail is filed and sanded off. The white pieces are either filler in the door handle recesses or strips of styrene to fill the little vertical step on the corner.

post-408-0-90418500-1347316871_thumb.jpg

I've also managed to retain the use of the body fixing screws - as can be seen with this pic.

A couple of small projects.......

2 days ago, I had to go and visit the local van hire company to book a couple of vans for upcoming exhibitions. I took the opportunity to take a couple of snaps of the vans.

post-408-0-35456300-1347317504_thumb.jpg

20 minutes in photoshop, a bit of transfer paper and this is the result.

post-408-0-57913200-1347317531_thumb.jpg

They still need to be converted from left hand to right hand drive and numberplates sorted, but it already looks the part.
