RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted July 10, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 10, 2016 The photo showing the 33 joining the main line must date from the early - mid 80s because if you look carefully there is fresh concrete troughing and new looking location cases in view, which date from the resignalling and are still there today. I also think I can make out a new colour light signal post to the left of the CIG unit (which is heading north to London for those not familiar with the location) The Brighton main line went live in stages in 1984 / 1985 (although the Redhill lines were only done once the Norbury / Anerley - Brighton via the Quarry lines was live) so we are probably looking at 1984 for the date of the photo. Thanks for that and your eagle eyes. I guessed it was early 1980s but 1984 narrows it down further.

guzzler17
33047 is captured at Salisbury whilst working 1V71 the 0920SO Brighton to Exeter St Davids service. Winter Timetable was a single loco and 8 cars, during the summer months this went up to two locos an 11 coaches. Slide dated 9/4/83. Photographer unknown Assuming that the photographer recorded the correct date for this photo then the loco was 33007 rather than 33047. I was aboard the quoted service on that day which left Salisbury 69 late as it had been diverted via Basingstoke, where I joined it, due to engineering work between Romsey and Salisbury. Due to the late running it was terminated at Yeovil Junction with passengers for stations further west joining the delayed 11.10 ex Waterloo. The Mule was kicking hard that day as at least three Waterloo services were 33 hauled. The 13.35 Exeter was cancelled and the stock was run 40 late as far as Yeovil, effectively as the Exeter to Brighton. At Yeovil the Brighton proper was restarted with 33007 after the delayed Waterloo service continued east. Nigel

bobster
A few not very good pics that I took at Salfords in the Summer of 1986 following the derailment of some ARC PGA Hopper Wagons that I believe were leaving Salfords Yard coming from the Brett Marine Siding - Would be Interested if anyone can add more Info to this Incident. I had gone to Salfords to get the Class 47 on the Manchester - Brighton service (I think) but only had a few frames left on the film. Cheers, Bob. Fat Controller
On the coal empties hauled by 33208, a slightly lower vehicle is visible at the end of the train- I suspect this is an OBA or OCA that had been used to deliver bagged coal to Hove, probably from Coventry colliery. RMweb Premium brushman47544 Posted March 6, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2017 Just west of Wimbledon on the Up Fast I knew someone would know where it was.....thanks DY444. Driver just making up a headcode by the looks of it. The headcode could well be correct-ish. On the SWD, 14 is/was Waterloo - Virginia Water via Weybridge up to 1981 (when it changed to Waterloo - Waterloo via Chertsey and Richmond). There used to be a fill-in move for a WoE (I think) loco hauled set to work round one of the loops to free up a platform a Waterloo that would otherwise be blocked in the evening peak by a rake of stock. The 73 could be on that working.
eastwestdivide
My oldest SEG headcode book (1978) has '14' as: Wloo - Weybridge - Staines and Esher - Staines (r & e), where r = race and rugby specials, and e = ECS (as well as others away from the SW division) The two brakes in the middle certainly make it look like a Wloo-Exeter set of coaches from the 1980s, but is that a Mk1 buffet car, and didn't those Exeter Mk2 rakes use converted Mk2 mini-buffets? It's in its original kodakchrome slide mount dated Oct 1978. It does look like a WoE set with the two Brake vehicles back to back but were the Waterloo services Mk1 rakes until later? Yes, but the photo is dated Oct 1978 and the WoE Mk2C TSOTs (W65xx) weren't converted until around 1980. The Mk1 in the photo looks like an RB. When was the WoE service converted from Mk1 to Mk2? I can't remember for the moment.
