Lady_Ava_Hay
i loved looking at the old Electrics and Diesels from the good old years of the 80s This made me really scared and laugh out loud at the same time, not because it is silly or anything it is just the good old days for me was the sixties. It has to be said though that a fair amount of the kit shown was built in the sixties and I can still remember the 33's and even the 24's all brand new and shiny in dark green let alone the EMU's. Rivercider
Well, this is a thread I don't remember seeing before, some good stuff in here. As it has been unearthed I will take the opportunity to add a few of my pics from the 80s. Here are some from a dull april afternoon in Salisbury, one of my favourite places for photos . 33103 has just terminated with a semi-fast from Waterloo formed by DEMU 1125, 23/4/80 DEMU 1125 after arrival from Waterloo, 23/4/80. Cross country set C593, which had been my ride from Bristol sets off back towards the WR, 23/4/80 33106 propels 4TC set 425 away on the 16.20 service to Reading 23/4/80 Bath Roads 31401 is in typical condition as it heads the 15.14 Bristol - Portsmouth Harbour, 23/4/80 cheers
retbsignalman
Are they really sleepers behind that 33? Hi! From the look of the stock and the short formation, it looks like theres two sleepers on the rear (with smaller compartment windows and writing on the sides - Mk1s didn't have 'Inter City' written on the sides other than sleeping cars if I recall correctly. Would this be the stock for the Stirling Motorail perhaps as it was booked to run from Dover as 1 x BFK, 1 x FK , 2 x SLSTP and 6 x Carflats? Interesting pics and great to see them, thank you!! eastwestdivide
Fancy a Jaffa cake anyone? Some photos at Cuxton in 1988 I'll see your Cuxton Jaffa Cake and raise you a slim Hastings unit + 3D, on a railtour in 1985 which had visited Chatham Dockyard. The white smoke top right is from the Martin Earles works - lime/cement/something white and dusty. It's now a leisure park, with cinema and theme restaurants, while the former chalk quarry for the works, connected by tunnel under the main railway, to the left of the line beyond the M2 bridge, was by then a landfill site, and is now Diggerland. The trees by the line last time I went made the current day equivalent shot almost useless

I'll meet you with some more Jaffas a 33 and 73 and some blue grey further down the line... Not to be out-Jaffa'ed (if that's a word), the reverse view of one of your Cuxton shots, off the M2 bridge cycle path, 1985: The same view in the snow a few months earlier, a 56 on the Allington-Westbury empties: Further down the line, a Tinsley 56 pulling out of Halling Rugby Cement with a short-lived evening cement working, 1984: And a companion to your shot of Snodland, November 1983, the Allington-Westbury empties again:
Rivercider
Last couple from Salisbury, for now, no fancy liveries back in 1980.... 33011 is working 1Z20 15.50 WO Waterloo - Sherborne Schools Relief, 23/4/80 31418, which I think was an ER allocated loco at the time, runs in with 16.07 Portsmouth Harbour - Cardiff, this was the train I caught back to Bristol on the way home, 23/4/80. cheers

Southernman46
Dug some of mine out - taken with a Pentax ME Super, mostly on Extachrome/Fujichrome 200ASA. On reflection looking through the entire collection (still loads to do) - but wish I'd taken more care (I appear to have suffered from early shutter release syndrome), used better ASA film, got out more. Same Railtour - different end different place Something different New livery - well it was in 1986 The old order Bizaare visitor to Kent Waterloo East 4-SUB @ Strood 2-BIL @ Higham East Croydon - this numbering scheme never did sit right on SR stock The Allington stone empties @ Strood Sevenoaks Cold! - Gillingham 1986 Colder (2) Gillingham 1986 but they still worked !! Lastly Clapham 2005 - had been at work all night and thought I was hallucinating.
