Here's two new pictures of the Union Pacific Railroad in Anaheim, California. In the first picture, the train is running down Santa Ana Street. In the second picture, the train is moving down Olive Street. Anaheim is about 35 miles(56 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles via the Santa Ana Freeway(Interstate 5, I-5, or "The 5").

Here's a 1990 picture of the Burlington Northern in Fort Collins, Colorado. The train is moving down Mason Street. Check out those old-time cars in the picture such as that Ford LTD station wagon(powder blue)! Fort Collins is about 60 miles(96 kilometers) north of Denver via the Interstate 25(I-25) freeway and is the home of the main campus of Colorado State University.

Random trivia, but Colorado State University featured - though with name changed - in the video game The Last of Us, and will likely feature in the HBO television adaption which is currently in production. :)

Like I said; 'random' trivia. :P

I just happened to have been listening to a set of talks by someone from Fort Collins (not the University) in car journeys this week - this is the only picture I've ever seen from there!  As always, thanks for sharing these, Keith.

On the 22nd of this month I started working for my last employer, 50 years ago! I stayed with them until I retired just over 12 years ago.

South Shore Line street running in Michigan City, IN, should be eliminated sometime next year....

https://www.doubletrack-nwi.com/

I think the original plan was to put in a by-pass line avoiding the central area, but this seems to have been simplified to shifting the tracks to just off the south side of the road in 10th Street and taking over the entire westbound part of the road in 11th Street (which for road traffic would become an eastbound one way street!)

There is a reasonable space at the side of 10th street to relocate the tracks, though it will be fairly close to houses on part of it, though I suppose they may narrow the roadway a bit as well.

Will go where the wooden poles are on the left of this photo....

Though houses are present looking the other way.......

EDIT: Looking at the maps on that website in detail, it would appear that all of the properties on the right of the last photo are actually going to be demolished to make room for the tracks!!!

I note from the caption it’s pushing (“shoving”) the train, too.

A former Pacific Electric line now only used as a headshunt.

It's strange to think that the US once had extensive networks of electric interurban lines, which these days would be seen as quite modern and eco friendly, but hardly any of these original ones remains.

The Pacific Electric alone ran over about 1000 miles of track.

All killed off by the rise of the private auto and freeway building..

And some of them covered long distances and covered large areas.

Here's one interurban that does survive complete with street running in the traditional way. The Chicago South Shore & South Bend in Michigan City IN.1068459017_R-CSSSB-014_CSS33MichiganCityIN17-10-96.jpg.b25cd89a5fe0b541994f3673017aab85.jpg
