When the real thing looks like a model

Recommended Posts

Well, some might argue that this is niether 'real' or 'model', but that's another arguement!

RHDR no 14 'Captain Howey', Dungeness 31-12-2008. The effect is soley down to the large apature used, it was getting late in the day.

Of course, when locos are ex-works,

they can look a bit like an unweathered shiny, brand new model, straight out of the box

.... especially when the environment they are sat in, has been spring cleaned too....

Edit; Look - not even a fag packet or bit of chewing gum in sight :O

Just looks like a bad photograph to me, whereas the upper photograph looks like a very good study of an ex works prototype locomotive on a bright sunny day. Its the kind of day that sticks in the memory. Nice pic marc.

Yes, appologies for that....

Perhaps I went a little OTT on the blurring....

The pic was taken at Eastleigh Open Day a few years back

It was a rather fabulous day, and I wish there were 1 or 2 more events like this each year :)

Anyhow, here's another version of the original pic - slightly less blurred,

again, my point being that with a little over saturation of blue skies,

looking oh-so-perfect, and a clean loco, and clean surroundings

these elements can make the subject appear model-like

A couple here (one of them actually has a comment about it looking like HO in the description):

I wonder if the clean, bright-coloured locomotive has something to do with it.

I don't think much of their weathering ;)

Indeed, the bright colours make it look shiny & out of the box...

In the 2nd pic, the high viewpoint makes the scene appear model-like.....

A great pic though....

Cheers
